I'd second Johnnie's comments on the drawbacks to the Camino Portuguese.
I can't speak of the Camino Ingles as I've not done it but from what JW says it looks an attractive option. My own preference would be to take 10 days or so on the Camino Frances as a first timer. It will be busy but you...
Sil/Ivar,
Plagiarism has also been a problem experienced by some gardening bloggers whom I read. Have a look at this interesting post by Hanna who keeps a blog This Garden is Illegal. (So called as her city ordinance prohibit growing veg in the front garden but she sneaks a few in anyway!)...
Hervas is well worth the detour and a lovely town to stay in. We were there in mid April during that inclement spell of weather (the feria in Seville was rained out). No refugio but there is an in town alburgue and if you want to spoil yourself (as we did) consider staying in El Jardin del...
William,
I've voiced my protest by emailing the Spanish Tourist Office in London - the press section at press.london@tourspain.es
The charge is way in excess of the low cost airlines (question whether they will follow suit); it's way more than what Iberia charges for excess baggage and I...
Re the alburege in Hervas. I've not stayed in it but I did stop by it on Paseo de la Estacion. It was clean and attractive (former railway building) and the manager (Carlos) kept a delightful and very well behaved dog called Hippy. The town/village itself is interesting including the juderia. If...
Thanks Javier. I've decided to push my dates back so I'm now planning to go between April 4 - 20th. Hopefully I'll get better weather and some spring flowers.
Thanks for the info.
I would like to go a little later but I want to be home for Easter (March 21-24) and if I go in April then maybe the fares etc will be higher because of half term. If I go later still then it will be getting hotter and I wilt in the heat! So early March it will be, I...
I'm planning on leaving Seville 29 Feb and cycling to Salamanca arriving there mid March. I've looked at the weather sites and can expect temps in the range 7Cto 14C but has anyone actually travelled at this time and what was their weather experience. Rain? Wind? Also will I be too early for...

Has anyone taken the bus to Padron from Santiago? How much is it return and what is the frequency - I think AlSA Pontevedra service is the one but it's itinerary does not show it stopping at Padron.
Thanks
John
Can someone help with translating a timetable on the FEVE website?
I intend to take the FEVE train from Ferrol to Oviedo on Sunday 18 Feb. The FEVE website says the trains are 'diaros' - does that mean daily including Sundays?
Many thanks
John
picos and camino
Turlough,
I haven't done the trip you're planning but I notice that Ivar has a link on this site to supported bike tours in the Picos. I know you'll probably make your own arrangements but maybe you'll get some ideas from it. Also take a look at Trento Bike Pages - there may...
cycling from Vezeley
Paul - I'd endorse William's advice. Haven't cycled the French sections but have cycled Ronscessvalles to SdeC and gone back to different sections several times. Always found that I averaged two walkers days or about 50km to 60km per day with plenty of time for sightseeing...
Ivars transport to Sarria
Ivar,
I voted 50-60 euro assuming it was per person.
As a comparison in 2005 my wife and I took a taxi from Pamplona airport to Roncessvalles (pre booked through Radio Taxi Pamplona on the web) and the cost including two bikes (they sent a mini van) was 30 euro...
travelling Santiago to Bilbao
Cronan,
I've not travelled from Ferrol but you will only be allowed to take bike on Regional trains or Regionales and from my experience last year there is often only 'official' space for three bikes, though the commuter trains into Santiago had space for 5 - 6...
biking the trail
May I suggest reading The Cycling Pilgrim available from the Confraternity of St James.
Also sign up to Santiago Bicileta a yahoo group linked from Ivars site.
I have mountain biked the Camino several times and have always been welcomed and been welcoming to all users...
