    Crinkly Plastic Bags

Some folks should probably not stay in albergues - those that can’t make an effort to be considerate of others staying there and those that can’t tolerate the involuntarily annoyances of the human condition (sneezing, snoring, coughing, etc). Private accommodations are a great alternative for...

    I didn't double stamp!

Whether or not you get a piece of paper with your name in latin, you did the hike and had your own experience that nobody else can credit to you or deny from you. I'm sure they'll give it to you anyway; the paper itself doesn't mean much compared to the memories you made.

Fly to Asturias or Santander airport to get to Leon?

I’m flying into Madrid and taking train to León. The fewer airports I see the better so I’d recommend go with the closest airport that lets you fly direct and train from there. Have fun on your Camino.

    Boxer shorts - any recommendations

I’m heading back to Camino in September with boxers from Reebok that are poly/spandex material. Minimal seams near the junk - no useless access ports. Also no inner pocket like Saxx and others. Waist band feels great so far. Still trying them out but so far so good. I’m ditching all cotton -...

I just want to give it up

So glad you saw your through this and that you carried on! After two years of walking sections of the Camino Francais and Camono del Norte, the one thing I know is that you're surrounded by fellow pilgrims and locals who do care and want to help when you're in real trouble. Good on you for...

Starting El Norte from Santander July 4

Hello G. I'll probably be on Norte in a few days - most likely starting at Laredo which is a day or two East of Santander. I walked from SJPP to Burgos last year. But I think I want to see the cliffs and coast this year so I think I'm jumping up to Norte to continue west. Since you're...

Girl walking Camino in mid September looking for advice

This poncho may work for you. I have it and find it a very good compromise between function, cost, quality, and weight. Whatever you do, keep it light. Some are made very durable but also heavy. Consider a middle way options. On a funny note, I did see a few people in plastic garbage bags...

    Swollen hands and fingers

When I walk at a quick pace, I get swollen fingers also. But using walking poles eliminates it completely for me. If you don’t like using poles you can try just holding on to your shoulder straps now and then; that usually works too.

    Astrid

Hi. I did my first section of the Camino from SJPdP to Burgos and saw Astrid along the way most days - usually in mid to late morning as she strode past. I got word from other Caministos that she made it to Santiago on schedule. But she apparently wasn't the only runner. Others told me they...

    Technical clothing

Consider what you'll really need clothes to do on Camino: be comfortable in variable climates, avoid chaffing when they get wet, keep you as dry as possible, dry quickly after washing, hold up to day after day washing and wearing, be a slight as possible, not stink to high heaven if you can't...

What is the significance of abandoned walking boots?

I was more puzzled when I saw just one boot instead of two. More than a week later a friend (a pilgrim) looked at my pictures and saw the single boot and a picture of a Korean woman I had met and smiled. He also saw the boot and decided to carry it forward deciding it was dropped by accident. He...

    Trekking Poles or Staff???

I recommend a pair of poles, especially with bad knees. They will help you enormously on the hilly sections - especially down steep and rocky sections. I also recommend you consider buying them in SJPdP if you don't already have them. It's possible you'll get collapsible pole's through the...

    Choosing a Pack

If you pack it lightly, you probably can carry it in. I have made two international trips with a 58l pack and got it on all planes. Out of 10 flights, only one asked me to check it at the gate for plane-side pickup after arrival. It easily fit large plane overheads and fit but was tighter in...

Fly with equipment as a carry on.

Update 2: The bag was eventually found. I got it back one week to the day AFTER I returned from the Camino. It was being held at my airport of origin by an airline that I didn't travel on. Thankfully they called.

Fly with equipment as a carry on.

Update. Just got back from a two week Camino stage. Carried my pack but checked a duffel with walking poles and a one man tent. The duffel never made it to France and they are still bumbling around trying to find it now that I am home. My lightly packed Gregory 58l went with me on each plane and...

Flying into Paris at 3pm - any tips on how to get to SJPP without losing days?

I flew from there to bayonne then shared a cab with other pilgrims. That worked fairly well and is pretty easy if they don't loose your luggage (don't check it if you're not prepared to loose it). They lost my checked bag tent and hiking poles. Thank God I carried the pack aboard.

    Camino Francés June 2014

Oh wow, it's now only 3 Sleeps! I feel like a race horse at the starting block - though I won't be in any hurry at all once my feet get moving. I'll be heading out from the states on the 20th and starting out from SJPdP on the 22nd. I look forward to meeting some of you on the way. If you see...

    ICE

For a reasonably small amount of info you can save it as the background image of the phone. Not sure about Androids but Apple products show the background image and time even when locked. Anybody with the phone would be able to see the info.

OK, so here I go, again

Best of luck. I can relate on the back issue. We just gotta roll with the changes! BC.
