    Budget hotel in Madrid

We stayed here. Close to the Prada Museum. Don’t know how far it is from the airport or to the train station. We came in from the train station and out via the airport. Neither were too far but you’ll need a bus or a cab. The hotel had a transport to the airport.

October CF bottoms for women - suggestions appreciated!

It does get cold in the early mornings in October but during the day it’s nice. You could wear hiking pants with the leggings underneath for the early mornings and then she’d the pants as the day warms up.

    Bread Options?

Actually, whole grain breads contain lectins (which are found in the husk part of the grain). Lectins are bad for your gut. (Also found in tomatoes, eggplant, and bell peppers along with a few other vegetables). So if you have gut problems stay away from whole grains. The grains in Europe are...

What is the best city to fly into to begin CF?

I was able to take the high speed train from Paris to SJPP directly from the airport (lower level) to SJPP. Had to change trains in Bayonne to the local train (different track size-very easy). The train from the airport doesn’t run every day so you may have to take a bus or subway into downtown...

    Portuguese steep descents?

I would like to add that on steep ascents/descents, zig zag your way up or down when you can. It is easier on your knees, hips, back and legs.

    Avoiding the breakfast trap?

If the albergue has a kitchen, buy your breakfast ingredients the night before and cook your own. Example: 4 of us went in together and bought food for dinner. We also bought a dozen eggs for the next morning. In the morning we scrambled 8 eggs along with the left over vegetables from the...

    Peregrino Torture Tower

And when you get to the top you can see the worn path that the locals use to cross the tracks!

    Squeaky shoe syndrome

I get squeaks sometimes when using inserts in my shoes. A little talcum powder takes care of it. If you're not using inserts then it probably is the shank inside the shoe and you can't do anything about it. It will eventually wear itself out.

    Ultreia Ring Symbols

Are Medication Refills Possible Along the Way?

You shouldn't have a problem getting your medications from your pharmacy before you leave. All I did was explain that I was going to be on vacation for two months out of the country and they filled them for me. There is a way to notify your insurance carrier of the reason for the early refill...

Wide Hips - Backpack for Women

Go to your nearest REI or other outdoor store and try different packs (which it looks like you have already done). I love the Osprey packs but they just don't fit me quite like I would like. I ended up with a Deuter 40 + 10 (is now a 45 + 10). The hip belt fit better and the shoulder straps...

Need a larger backpack - advice please

I was able to carry my boots inside my backpack when I wanted to hike in my sandals. I use a Deuter 40+10 backpack.

How did you carry your water?

I recently bought one of these. I haven't received it yet so I don't know how they work but they look like a great idea and everyone who has bought one really likes them. They are made by a hiker. If you would like information just send me a request. They are attached at the top and the bottom...

How did you carry your water?

I drink a lot of water because I sweat a lot. I used two 1 liter collapseable bottles, filled up every chance I got and almost ran out along the meseta.

    Special Church song help

Do you know at what point in the mass it was sung? Before or after communion? During communion? Between the readings? It sounds like it could be the responsorial psalm between the readings.

Hi everyone new and veteran camino travelers i need help.

I flew out of Atlanta to Paris, then the high speed train to Bayonne (you can catch it right at the CDG airport), then changed to the local train to SJPP. Coming home I took the train to Madrid and flew back to Atlanta from there. Really easy!
