You actually have a point with the Medulas. It would probably make sense opening something before (you won't find space to buy in Medulas), so people can perhaps do a short circuit in Medulas during their walk and then and their day in Puente de Domingo Flores.
I will definitely look into that...
Hello everyone.
It's been a while since I posted here, but I haven't given up on my dream of opening an albergue.
I just came from a long trip to Spain, during which (besides other things), I walked Camino Olvidado & Camino Invierno, and met with a couple of local gestors (tax advisors).
So...
I do not know how I deserved this, but thank you for your support 🙏 No doubt I will update the thread here when anything meaningful happens. And it certainly will this year.
Thank you, another name to my database of useful contacts for information that I gathered from this thread. I already...
Thank you Lindsay! One day it will happen :).
Thank you, I definitely want to explore Camino Olvidado, and it is an option :). I will probably add at least a part of it to my spring trip to Spain.
Honestly speaking though, for me it is really important to experience the places in person, see...
Thank from the depth of my heart to everyone here 🙏. I had no idea this community was so active, and you totally flooded me with useful responses. I already see opening this thread was an excellent idea, and I could do nothing better at this point of my project. Responses below:
Thank you, I...
Thanks a lot for your input!
I have checked the work of Rebekah's association and kudos to the initiative, but from what I read on the website of her association I do not get an impression that she can provide me the advice I need here, at least at this point.
Having said that, I definitely do...
Hello everyone. It's been a long time since I've been here and posted anything.
Joined this forum back in 2015, after walking my first camino in late 2014.
Like for many members here, the first camino was an unforgettable experience. It changed my life more than I had originally realized...
With the blog, it always depends on your goals.
Considering how over-saturated the niche of Camino the Santiago is, the quality of some blogs in the niche, and the latest Google updates, and kind of websites they prioritize now, it will be extremely tough for you to get at least decent number...
Exactly. We live in a strange age, when people do things for a piece of paper... They study at the University to get the Diploma, and they do the pilgrimage to get the Compostela- to have something to show their friends. Sad but true.
Personally I took the Compostela on my first Camino, but on...
Hi Phot, there's no need to take buses. Just get yourself a guide, and look for alternative roads.
There are maps in every good guide, and you can either take one of the alternative marked roads, or just walk an unmarked one according to the map.
Buen Camino!
Depends on what you are looking for. In Paris, there isn't any good private accommodation that costs less than 100 euro /night. Mark my words, I've been there more than ten times and tried many different places in many districts... Any hotel below that will be dirty, excessively small, mostly...
The Pilgrimage from Paulo Coelho is the one I read, and it was really inspiring.
But good advice is also to not read excessively, because I felt that to experience the unknown, to encounter some good and bad surprises on the way, and to have a need to talk to local people and ask for help, was...
We live in 21st century. You can talk for two hours on Skype with your loved ones in practically every alberge (or restaurant on the way). I saw sooo many Americans doing it on the Camino. I think that some of them actually talked more with their families back in States on the Camino, then they...
There will be many of us, June is a pretty busy month on the Camino. No need to be worried, just remember the name Astorga, and once sleeping in an alberge there, make arrangements with some group of pilgrims (many people do walk in the group, and who knows, maybe you will already be in one when...
The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.
Just one of many great thoughts you will find in books of Marcel Proust :).
Many people shared their opinion, but anyone hardly answered your question: advice on running the Camino. I will try...
1. Take some hard trial shoes, but not with goratex membrane. It would be a killer in Spanish weather and those shoes would be too sweaty at the end of each day - it would be...
Well, many pilgrims don't use sticks, because you CAN do the Camino without them. But for me, there are definitely few reasons why I use them even for short walks back in my country.
1. Walk with sticks is much more balanced movement, you do not overuse legs and do not overdevelop some muscle...
Hi, hopefully not too late to advice you Sore.
1. Sleeping bag liner is definitely good, you will find blankets in most of the albergers. Sleeping in a lot of clothes is not good for your body imho, so better ask for a blanket or too if you feel cold :)
2. Don't be afraid of bed bugs. I have...
I've seen many local people walking with umbrellas on Camino Frances, but have never seen anyone from outside Spain using it. Still, the locals know the best probably :). As for me, I love waling sticks too much, so wouldn't sacrifice one hand for an umbrella. You will see, maybe you donate it...
