Wherever you decide to stay 2 nights, make sure you can stay 2 nights and have access during the day. Most albergues are closed during the day. We stayed 2 nights in Barcelos and took the bus to Braga to spend the day. Left our packs at the albergue.
"There are things you will never see unless you walk to them" a beautiful quote I saw on a plaque just before crossing a foot bridge on the east coast trail in Newfoundland, Canada. Can't remember the author but it is so true.
Yes, you can do this short day trip and see some amazing things or...
Have you looked at these.

I don't want to scare people, I just want them to be prepared so that they can have a wonderful experience. I wish I had known this before attempting this trail.
We stayed at the club Alpin and the accommodations were ok but it is located right below the church bells and they ring every hour and half hour. We did not sleep a wink and left early the next morning. It is such a beautiful village that we wanted to stay 2 nights but we need sleep.
I just returned from hiking sections of the via Tolosana, or chemin d’Arles and would like to offer advice to future hikers. First of all this trail is a GR and not necessarily a camino. Be prepared to do 20 plus kilometres per day with no place to sit except for the ground. Don’t expect any...
We are debating whether or not to bring our sleeping bags. Walking from Arles to Castre, starting Sept 21 or 22. Don't know how many gites d'drapes we will be able to stay at. What is your experience?
I put the question (wording) to members of my french association this evening and all agree that the reference would be regarding the use of bed covers as I previously mentioned and as jsalt mentioned "you are obliged to adhere to their bed bug control rules". i.e. in this case bed covers being...
I'm attending a Camino meeting this week and I know that some of the members here have walked from Arles and they would also be familiar with the Miam Miam Do Do. I will ask the question.
Your translation is exact. My wife and I walked Porto to SdC in Feb 2015 and treated our outer back pack and sleeping bag with Permethrin and all was good for us. For one, our route was very quiet, including us we were 4 to 6 nightly. Many Albergues provide a new paper mattress cover for your...
Are you familiar with the local Camino association called Du Québec a Compostelle? Their next meeting is on Sept 9th in Gatineau and the QC web site is www.duquebecacompostelle.org
Bonjour Gislaine, nice to see an Ottawa face on here. I don't have an answer to your Lisbon departure but my wife and I did Porto to Santiago in Feb 2015 and can provide info on that stretch. We would be glad to touch base with you and as per your activity log, we are also interested in doing...
Checked my book and its the municipal albergue, Posada Dona Urraca. We stopped for coffee in Meson Don Pulpo and the lady there had indicated that it was so so. She was right, it is old, stuffy, terrible showers and cold and as the book says its provisional.
The good news if I can call it that, I now know where my two boxes are. The one box I did not need, I retrieved yesterday from a 3rd party named Tourline that seems to handle the Portuguese mail crossing into Spain, but as Ivar said there is no certainty about it but it's very likely the case...
The one in Barcelos and both were the municipal ones.I don't have my book with me but in Barcelos it is the ciudad (city) and the other one Caldas I think is the xunta.
I've just completed the Portuguese Camino (Porto to Santiago ) and did forward a few boxes ahead to myself addressed to the Santiago correos and what could go wrong, did. I went to retrieve my boxes at the Santiago correos only to be told that they had been sent elsewhere (3rd party), why? no...
Hi, we completed the Portuguese Camino from Porto to Santiago yesterday. The markings were excellent especially in Portugal. The arrival in Santiago is not as good with respect to the markings. They could improve. We asked several times and the closer to the cathedral the more difficult it was...
