    Memorable Albergues on the Portugues

I agree with Casa Fernanda! Fantastic way to get into the real spirit of the Camino. Please do not miss the Monastery in Herbon! I stayed twice and both times were awesome. Think about taking the detour to the Variante Espiritual, a beautiful trail up the mountains and down through a magical...

Nana and Meg on the Caminho Portugues

Tomorrow Meg and I will finally reach Santiago! It has been a long journey and it is far from over. We still have a month left in Europe so we will definitely do Finistre and Muxia. Perhaps we will go back and the Spiritual Variante that I wanted but we missed. Only time will tell. No 2 Camino's...

So I took Meg to the hospital Monday and she has pulled a muscle in her hip, and after X-ray we saw there was no break or crack. We trained to Porto and got her muscle relaxers and pain pills then we will stay for 2 days and rest. Tui Trans will take the bag for a week and we will see after...

    Starting point from Lisbon?

Oh my goodness! Well then, I will give my Brierleys to Meg and let her do the navigating. Seems to me I've got us lost already, and I'm still on another continent!

    Public Albergue in Azambuja

Just looked it up in my Brierleys. My mistake. I will still be stopping there, just not as soon!

    Public Albergue in Azambuja

I think this is where my granddaughter and I will head for on our first day out of Lisbon. I have heard nothing but good reviews, and I love the yarn bombing of the trees out front! See you on Aug 12!

    Starting point from Lisbon?

Well my granddaughter and I will start from the Cathedral. Especially after Peregrina and Helen's photos! That's on Aug 11, my flight leaves in 22 hours 40 minutes (but I'm not counting) and I want to see and experience every foot of this Camino.

Nana and Meg are Officially Hitting the Trail Together!

We will probably be there the last week in September.

    Some fun but harmless stereotyping

Yes Lmsundaze! We should have our own category! The Grannies who stop and talk to every trail cat they see, comfort the young kids with sunburns or blisters, and walk slower than dial up internet (remember the electronic beeping of AOL?). That's us. We are Analog Girls in a Digital World...

    Close encounter with the bulls

Ya know, they used to tell hikers in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming to wear bells, it alerted Grizzly Bears of someone approaching and therefore did not startle them. But then they started missing tourists, and finding bells in Grizzly dung. Turned into dinner bells I guess.

Face cream, Bronzer and Lipstick-$600 Color coordinated workout clothes and Gucci backpack-$5000 Twitter account on a silver IPhone to keep the paparazzi informed -$800 Her face when she saw the mud and rocks on the downhill side of Monte Irago - PRICELESS.

Nana and Meg are Officially Hitting the Trail Together!

Tonight is the big Paella Dinner at Church, a Buen Camino (or is Bom Camino?) party for ME! :D I am making a giant pan of Paella, and everyone is bringing salads and bread and desserts, and of course feathers! I will carry feathers for everyone who can't go on a pilgrimage for one reason or...

Nana and Meg are Officially Hitting the Trail Together!

Y'all are gonna get me hip and cool if it's the last thing you do, aren't you? Perhaps I will play a game of "What color is Nana's Hair Today?" No, I'll leave the coolness to my wonderful granddaughter. Besides, when the older generation do things it takes the shock factor out of it. Who wants...

Nana and Meg are Officially Hitting the Trail Together!

Well Meghan just sent me a photo of herself. She's made some changes. I will not miss her at the Lisbon Airport, she will be easy to find. Her hair is a bright purple hue. Sigh. I guess some of the things I did at that age made my grandma sigh too. Well, purple hair or bald, she's my...

Who is starting from Lisbon at beginning of September 2017?

I've made reservations at Pensao Residencial Setubal in Lisbon for our first two nights, August 10 and 11. We will shake off the jet lag, acclimate to the climate, and sightsee for a day. Then we are on our way! No reservations from there. I know one day is not enough to see Lisbon properly, but...

    Camino Souvenir

I remember two days before SDC girls in the albergue commenting on women exiting the shower. Days. Weeks. Days. Weeks. Trying to guess how long they'd been walking by how long the leg hair was. When I came out I stuck my leg out of the towel and said Months! And they rolled on the floor laughing.

Perhaps if we all put on the fake beard and mustache...
