First Camino - Nervous and with questions about the start

Sunrise and early can be mutually exclusive at certain times of the year. Also while sunrise is an objective measure, early is very subjective. Unless you enjoy it or it is going to be quite hot there is no real reason to in the dark.

    OK guys, what underwear?

I wear running shorts with a liner, no underwear needed. Works very well and less laundry

    Topo Wearers!

I am between an 8 and 8.5 depends on the company. I wear an 8.5 in Topos and I wear only 1 pair of either Smartwool, Darn Tough or Wrightsox (no liners).

    Topo Wearers!

I wore the UV3 last September on the Camino. I loved them. Nice combination of Hoka cushioning and Alta toe box width. I found the UV 3 to be a bit soft and I would up with some callous on my heels, I would switch to the mtn. racer next time. As for grip...I felt like a goat coming down from...

    Summer clothes

I brought 2 pair of shorts with a built in liner and 1 pair of hiking pants. The only time I used the pants was when I did all laundry and on the plane. never wore them hiking even when it rained.

    Summer clothes

The humidity is quite low on most of the Camino. I walked early Sept/Oct last year. I brought four tops: 2 quick dry SPF 50 t-shirts, 1 merino wool long sleeve shirt and 1 long sleeve button down SPF shirt. The weather will change a lot that time of year. By the time I got to Leon (mid Sept.) I...

    Joint Credencial?

It is really simple, you just don't like the answer. Rule or custom, your point is that you are "lawyering" up, Use 2 credencials, after getting the Compostela just add the other name to one of them for framing. There is no "rule" about that.

Sleeping Bag Weight for CF in Oct: Share Your Tips!

I used a Brownint silk/cotton liner (from Amazon) and a rumpl nano loft blanket last August 25-Sept 20th. Walked SJPD to Burgos, bus to Sarria and walked to SdC. Never used the blanket, but brought it in case I was cold. I mostly slept on top of the liner and only wore shorts. The 2-3 times I...

Is the Albergue in Roncesvalles a “must”?

We did not stay there. We stayed in a hotel in Roncesvalles. In talking to people we met at Orrisson, who did stay there the feelings were mixed. They liked it, but didn't get much sleep between the noise and people getting up to use the bathroom and lights coming on because they are on...

    August/September Start Advice

The weather was predictable, cool mornings hot afternoons. For me, the most unexpected thing was how late in the morning it got light. Most days it was around 8:15. We made reservations through Puenta la Reina including Orrisson. I would recommend doing that. We then made reservations 2 days...
