    Rest before starting the Camino

The day has finally arrived, with just a few hours before I set off, I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to reply to my post and for giving me hope, encouragement and determination. This is the first blog I have ever done, it may show in places o_O but it's been a great...

Haha, good luck with that, I gladly do a swap with you. I get there for when it opens, that way I may be in with a chance? See you in a couple of days.

    Rest before starting the Camino

Hi Marleen, I just tried to make a reservation at the Beilari on 28th and their full :( however, their website did say that they do keep a few places vacant for drop-in's, so fingers crossed, I really should get more manageable o_O

    Rest before starting the Camino

Hey Marleen, that's fabulous! I think I have come to the conclusion that training is all well and good but not as essential as I thought initially, in hindsight, I probably would have got away with half of what I did and followed what you are doing and use the first week as training because I...

Hi Angelo, thank you. I like that analogy, I certainly won't be racing, that's for sure :) I'm just going to take it steady and I'll get to Roncesvalles when I get to Roncesvalles, I am going to attempt not to put time frames in place, simply one step at a time and plod on...

    Rest before starting the Camino

Yes, of course, I am mindful of it now ;)

    Rest before starting the Camino

Thank you Albertinho, really interesting post, I never really give much thought about dogs on the camino until now. I was aware of dogs being territorial, but it sounds like they can be quite a threat to pilgims, so I can see how poles would make you feel more safer. I'm sure it's not about...

    Rest before starting the Camino

I can see how that can happen, and little, if anything, you can do about it, you were very fortunate that there were no rocks, it may well have been a different story. I'm not sure how you can prepare for something like that, especially carrying a rucksack?

I must say I haven't had such an experience, must have been terrifying for you, Dachshund's are quite large dogs.

Thank you dougfitz, the link was really useful, it explains everything,

    Rest before starting the Camino

Mmmm, I've not had that experience, and not sure that dogs actually think that way? You have a point though, although I'm not sure that 'whacking' dogs' was my primary purpose for getting the poles? I can see your point about protecting yourself. I'm not a dog lover, but I'm not a dog hater...

    Rest before starting the Camino

My sincere apologies dougfitz, I can confirm that using my poles have certainly been an advantage, a shove when trekking uphill and a stabilizer when going downhill, even walking on even paths, it gives you a momentum and makes you feel like your in control. I bought a cheap pair on the sale...

    Rest before starting the Camino

Good to know your a Leki fan :) I must say I have become so dependent upon poles, whether their healthy or not, I don't know, but they work for me, so I'm happy. I did wonder about the airlines, but thankfully I have a purchased a transformer bag that fits both rucksack and poles into one neat...

In fact dougfizt, Rob does clarly not know Sorry dougfitz Forgive me dougfitz if I'm out of order by this response, I know nothing! Your reply seems a little patronising. I'm not sure what I have done to to offend you, but I apologise. As I stated, my poles are new to me so why on earth...

Sorry for seeming a bit dim, but can you please expand on "killing two birds with one stone?

What can I say dougfitz, but accept this is total equilibrium.

I will look forward to that very much, I must warn you though, I treated myself to a pair of Leki's recently so my grip is awesome :) I hope we get the opportunity, you sound such fun, Buen Camino
