    Money card woes

Assuming you don't carry a balance on your credit card, the interest can be avoided on cash advances by simply making a payment to cover the amount of the advance, before the advance is taken. If there is a balance on the card, then the balance must be paid as well for this to work. My...

Try Out Village Life on the Camino, and Help Us Out!

I, too, really wish I could. I hold an EU passport in addition to my Cdn passport but am booked to help out a family member next February and March. I have no doubt the right person/people will come along. Best wishes in your search.

Don't walk the Camino, unless it's your Way

Thank you for your thoughtful post. Although I have not yet walked the Camino, I think I may understand what you're saying. My travels have taught me that I do not enjoy being on a 'tourist track' which skirts the culture of a place. I ran screaming from Venice (not outwardly but with every...

ESSENTIAL Equipment for the Budget Concious Pilgrim?

OK, sorry but I simply can't resist ... I wrote the following poem a few years ago to a friend who had invited me for dinner and said she'd be cooking rice. The Billie that I mention towards the end is her sometimes very mischievous dog :-) I went to sleep last night wondering What kind of...

    Getting Money

Should be fine - be sure you have a 4 digit pin and be sure your pin does not start with a 'zero'. Check with your bank regarding charges ... RBC charges me $5 each time I use the debit card overseas. Needless to say, I carry it only for emergencies ..... ! If you have access to secure wifi...

European Peace Walk - Travel questions

I've given myself 2 nights in Vienna before I start walking so hopefully that will be enough rest. o_O Thanks for your thoughts on not booking in advance. Definitely feels more appropriate to me; allowing for leeway depending on flight, how I feel, etc.

European Peace Walk - Travel questions

I posted this in the European Peace Walk forum since that's what I'm going to Vienna for. Where should my question have been posted?

European Peace Walk - Inter-stage baggage transfers

Information I received from EPW organizers is sleeping bags are not necessary but liners are always helpful to have.

European Peace Walk - Travel questions

Looking for advice regarding train travel with OBB. I'm arriving midday in Venice and need to get to Vienna by the following day. I'm considering spending the day in Venice and taking the (approx) 1.00 am overnighter but if I'm exhausted from my overnight flight from Canada, I may want to...

European Peace Walk - Accommodation: what are the costs ??

My understanding is no but I could be very wrong about that. PW's are required to book their Vienna, Bratislava and Trieste nights so those are left to your choice. The rest along the way are organized by EPW crew. Some may be established accomodations but I believe some have been "created"...

European Peace Walk - Accommodation: what are the costs ??

Hi Zolarose, the info I was given was about 100 euros worth of Hungarian Forint and about the same for Croatian Kuna. I actually am taking a bit less than that, simply because I've been really hit hard by the drop of the Canadian Loonie (dollar).

    European Peace Walk - Starting August 25th, 2015 .....

I will do my best enroute but if it doesn't materialize, I will post once I'm back home. I've never done one but will be looking into it over the next couple of weeks. Historically I've always done group emails but I do see the value of having a blog with a few photos as one goes.

    My conundrum ....

I'm looking for a 25 to 30 L backpack right now for my EPW trek but the airline limits carry on to 23x40x51 cm (9x16x20 in). Haven't found a backpack that fits those criteria yet. Do other airlines allow bigger bags?

    Running shoes ok?

Salomon x ultra 2 non goretex was my choice. It was a totally different feel on my feet than the identical style with goretex. Bottom line - go and try several brands and definitely different styles of the same brand. You will probably quickly narrow down the choice that works for your feet.

European Peace Walk - Accommodation: what are the costs ??

    1. re Hungary and Croatia - wondering approximately how much of each currency (forint and kuna) should be estimated based on the time spent in those 2 countries? 2. I thought I read somewhere suggested places to spend an extra day along the route but I can't find it anymore. Anyone have...

    European Peace Walk - Starting August 25th, 2015 .....

Wondering whether anyone else will be starting August 25th? I don't do Facebook so feel at a definite disadvantage. This is my first foray into long distance walking so would love to hear from others starting on that date.

    European Peace Walk - Travelling to/from Vienna/Trieste

So I've finally booked what seems to be the easiest and most affodable option for me ... direct flight Montreal to Venice return with Air Transat. An overnight train from Venice to Vienna and then 2 nights in Vienna to rest up before I start my walk. Now I just have to hope I added enough...

    European Peace Walk - Travelling to/from Vienna/Trieste

Wow, thanks for the feedback. I had never heard of hipmunk so I'll add it to my list of resources. And the London Gatwick return with Air Transat is a great idea. I was thinking one-way both directions but the overseas return with one way EU flights is much better. Thanks again, both of you...

    European Peace Walk - Travelling to/from Vienna/Trieste

At the very last minute, I jumped. I'm registered for EPW, start date 25 August and I'm thrilled !!! But now for the details ..... Coming from Canada, I'm looking for the most economical way to get to Vienna. Direct to Vienna is quite expensive - my preliminary research suggests either...
