Need help deciding to bring or not to bring

I regretted bringing the kindle as I could read on my phone or listen to audiobooks.

Where to go after to relax

Last year made the mistake of travelling after the 500k walk to Porto and Barcelona and Cadaqués then the UK.(All amazing) but I was too tired to make the most of it. So this year I’m lucky enough to be able to go again. This time will be in Tuscany (birthday party) first and now looking for...

They’re in the cafe opposite the Cathedral. (Possibly)

    Backpacks Check-in or carry-on

I flew Qatar last May to Madrid for Camino. Always check in poles in my big luggage. Always carryon Camino back pack with Camino shoes and important items I wouldn’t want to have to repurchase if per chance luggage got lost. Posted main luggage to Santiago from Madrid with Correos. Worked...

    Niggling hates (dislikes) on Camino

Toilet paper 🤯 Drip dry like the guys if you need a pee outside. Gross? Maybe. Otherwise take it with you in a small bag. My two cents.

Nicknaming the People You Walk With

Pink lady, Swedish guy, Beanie lady, Pammie, Prep and Rep (prepare and repair blisters), and loads more.

    What does "good shoes" mean?

I used merrells, no blisters but tendinitis. Next time I chose shoe with more cushioning but still good grip, hoka speedgoats. No blisters but found them a bit unsupportive. Next time I’m wearing la sportiva. I’ve got them already. A more structured shoe, plenty support plus great grip. Hard...

    Staying in Madrid

I thought this place the Hat was your joke. Cats, Hats etc. It's actually a real place. How very cool.

    Diversity on the Camino

I met a girl from Atlanta on the Camino in May. She had so many people saying hi to her. I said, how come everyone knows you? She said, because there's no other people of colour on the camino, you cant forget me!

    Staying in Madrid

I stayed at Hostel Persal. Price was great, it's in a square which has everything you need, restaurants, supermercado, some nice shops for getting last minute presents for grandkids, walking distance to Plaza Major and the people were also very attentive. Room was nice, clean, air-conditioned...

    Prettiest Walk

I think you find breathtaking beauty on the Tour du Mont Blanc. Majestic mountains all around. A camino seems a different thing to me, not a hike, but an experience, an immersion, and to be treasured in an entirely different way.

    Glee!

I just had a chat with some friends who walked with me this year on the Frances. From Burgos to Santiago. Looks like we are going to go next year from SJPP. OMG! September 22nd. Now begins the joyous countdown til we are away again....... Third time for me. Funny what makes one happy huh.

    Surprising myself!

I have been aquiring stuff over many years and often for mountainous adventures but with awareness of weight since 2015. (Just in case i went on another camino one day) There are lighter synthetic t shirts (outdoor research, montane around 80g) but I prefer merino t shirts. I wear icebreaker...

Michelin star restaurant between Sarria and Santiago.

I appreciate good food too. I decided on my last Camino in May the garlic gambas I had would be my choice for my last meal on earth …… somewhere on the Meseta, forget where…. And the pane con tomate has had me inviting friends over at home to enjoy a replica of that…. I miss it…sigh

    Depth on the Camino?

I love this too. I never ask people what their job is for this reason. I really like to be in the present moment with them. I like that the walking is hard because you can’t get distracted too much by the past or the future, some immediate need draws you back to the now. Relating just as...

    Surprising myself!

Brilliant! My ordinary travel is also streamlined. I get a lot of pleasure when checking in my 13kg for 7 weeks overseas. It’s a mad obsession. Really though, how good is it not to carry so much stuff with you, not to need coordinating shoes. It’s great just saying oh well I’m wearing my...

    Surprising myself!

I love this! I’m not the only one! 👏👏👏. I also weigh it all on kitchen scales. I Google lightweight backpacking websites, checking out all the gear. I’ve already bought my camino shoes and a lighter sleeping bag and I wont be going for another 11 months. I get a buzz out of it too. 🤪

    Surprising myself!

Second time I did the Frances again but from Burgos. ONLY (?) 500k.
