I would like to move onto the Invierno from the CF in late Oct this year and wondered if it might be:
-Too quiet/lonely/unsafe for solo women
-Too closed in terms of cafes and accoms
-Too wet/cold.
The threads make it sound a perfect route but they seem to all be spring or summer travellers...
Instead of a towel, take 3-4 dishwipes - we call them Chux downunder. They are light, rinse out and dry quickly. I used a light sleeping bag and silk liner at every albergue, but if you stay in casas or hotels you won't need them. Essential toiletries are small shampoo bottle which does for...
Or a glass softdrink bottle works - it hurts as you stretch the tendon out but it releases the pain from the ankle , knee or even hip that comes from this. See if yoj can get a decent orthotic in London
It seems you are starting on the coastal then moving across. I did this in 2016 and the crossing from VdC to Rates was not very well marked.i used the Brierley guide, following the aquaduct but did get lost at one point, though was helped on my way by locals.
Going through to Barcelos in 1 day...
Thanks for all the advice - I don't like to rush and like to have a look around, so will factor that in. Am wondering were the awful bushfires an issue for anyone walking last year? Did you encounter them Surya? Thanks again.
Hi Forumees,
Given last year's Oct bushfires, is there a route that would be preferable for mid October 2018?
This is my second Camino following a 2 week central CP/VDLP in 2016. I thought of the CF but don't want huge crowds - like Pitt Street as we say down here.
Thanks :)
O Ninho was lovely, but in 2016, no mama - a young man was covering the shift.
I couldn't sleep due to a horrendous snoring plague, so took my sleeping bag outside to sleep on a lounge and had a lovely cat snuggle up to purr me to sleep.
Prior to travel, you can soak your bag and liners in either of the 2 Aussie Natural oils diluted - TeaTree or Eucalyptus, followed by spray all over of the same. I used my bath for the soak.
An alternative for the chemically or permethrin sensitive.
Hi Katy
It wasn't very well marked in 2016 - I followed the aqueduct as Brierley suggests, but did end up getting lost and in an industrial area called something like Toughina! Busy traffic and not so pleasant. However a kind local pointed me in the right direction, and once I saw the cafe...
Hello Judi,
I will be starting in Porto mid may. My first camino. I think I will start coastal and move inland based on this forum's comments. Hopefully we will connect.
Bom Caminho,
Kaz
Hi Rob and other and thanks for the good ideas and advice
Am also a first timer planning to travel from Porto and turn inland at some point. Also coming from NSW in May, coincidentally Rob, so may see you both at some point! Coincidence or budget airfares from down under?? Who knows?
Am glad...
