LIVE from the Camino Live from the Camino Salvador - it’s hot and very tough here, but incredibly beautiful

Day 4 Llanos de Someron - Pola de Lena Yesterday the whole “camily” had a wonderful dinner that Pablo and Rosario cooked for us. And the breakfast today was also nice. Highly highly recommended, this albergue! Another hot sunny day. We took the 2nd alternative, didn’t even notice the first one...

    Overdoing it on the Salvador

I am on the Camino San Salvador and I saw a snake yesterday (and a dead one). They were small and I am more afraid of the aggressive dogs, and we were chased by a crazy male horse yesterday 🤪 Had to throw ourselves off the path 😂

LIVE from the Camino Live from the Camino Salvador - it’s hot and very tough here, but incredibly beautiful

It’s really amazing and I have been so lucky with clear skies, but it has also been very tough in the heat. But I definitely recommend it! But prepare for the tough terrain if you are not already used to that. 😊

LIVE from the Camino Live from the Camino Salvador - it’s hot and very tough here, but incredibly beautiful

Forgot to ask, and we missed the sign for the first alternative anyway, and took the second one that Ender recommends in his guide. That one was beautiful and tough enough so I can’t imageine how hard the first one is. Ender doesn’t recommend it either l.

LIVE from the Camino Live from the Camino Salvador - it’s hot and very tough here, but incredibly beautiful

I posted this below (day 2) in the thread called “overdoing it on the San Salvador, but I’ve decided to create a new thread since that one is very long now. Will try to post every day. (Day 1 was also hot and I was exhausted when I arrived to the Pension Mundo. The hostess in the bar was so...

    Overdoing it on the Salvador

I am on the San Salvador now and it’s very hot. Day 2 today and the uphill from Buiza was brutal. Started early in La Robla, but the tough climb started around noon when it was the hottest. Bring lots of water if it’s sunny. I also bought Aquarius, the energy drink, and it saved my day. The...

    Tea on the go

Lipton’s Yellow Label should be banned 😝 I drink a liter of tea a day I think.. No Irish blood though... I thought the English were the heavy tea drinkers 🤔 My tea bags are not negotiable, I rather ditch something else 😄

    Tea on the go

I bring a lightweight thermos with tea and milk powder. Can’t live without my tea 😊 I use the “Sea to Summit” foldable silicon mug. It doesn’t weigh much and it’s really handy on uneven surfaces and on train as well, since it doesn’t slip. Don’t put cold water in the thermos, better to use a...

Coeliac disease (strict gluten free diet)

I walked the Camino Francés & Finisterra/Muxia 2016 and I only had trouble finding gf food once in a small village. I always had nuts and gf bisquits in my pack. I usually bought yoghurt and bananas and had it at the albergue for my ”1st breakfast” (can’t walk on an empty stomach) then I had...

All set, now I just have to wait.

I will arrive in Oviedo on the 13th from San Salvador if everything goes as planned, then continue on the Primitivo the following day. Maybe we’ll see eachother. Buen Camino :-)

Camino San Salvador/Primitivo: Do I need to book accommodation in advance in May?

Thanks for the reply I will try to stop worry then and just go with the flow :) I did however notice that it was quite booked when I planned for this walk in September 2021 (this trip was cancelled due to illness)

Camino San Salvador/Primitivo: Do I need to book accommodation in advance in May?

Thanks for the reply :) Ok, I will probably not book ahead... ”crowded”? Hmm.. I DO want to meet fellow pilgrims, but I hope you’re right that it will be less crowded now since many hostels have closed. I was planning to walk to llanos de somerón and then to Pola de Lena but maybe I have to...

Camino San Salvador/Primitivo: Do I need to book accommodation in advance in May?

Hi all I will walk the San Salvador & Primitivo in May and I am going back and forth on pre-booking or not. I didn’t book anything on my first Camino (Francés/Fisterra) in 2016, except for the last part, but things have changed since then I presume... It’s also a different Camino, especially...
