I am new, excited, and equally nervous.

Reading your post was like going back in time four or five years... the excitement and anticipation combined with the same unknowns/concerns. In early May 2017 we began from SJPDP and finished around the 15th of June or so, after opting to take the train across the mesa due to a 40 degree heat...

If You Only Had Time To Spend In One City: Porto vs. Lisbon

I have not been to Lisbon but had already planned to go back to Porto. We loved walking around and soaking up the old city. After staying in the city last time followed by a couple of nights at the beach, we were planning to base ourselves out at the beach area of Matosinhos, and use public...

    Camino Skies film.

Looking forward to seeing this in Kerikeri next week before starting our second camino in September.

Pre-Booking? Camino Frances mid Sept. 2019 start

In September, we will undertake our second Camino to celebrate my partner's 70th birthday - yeah! Bring it on! The routine below worked for us on our last Camino so we will go with that flow again! I bought the Brierley map-only guide so that I knew where the masses would be stopping off. I...

Desperate for advice on SIM card matters

I also bought a Vodafone SIM card in Pamplona last year with the traveller package. You must have your passport with you to avail of this offer. I used wifi whenever I could (between albergues and bars, I had access to wifi every day) but was confident that I had enough data to use when I...

    Best CF Guidebook Recommendations

I also used the Kindle version of Anna Dintaman's Village to Village guide which had been downloaded to my phone, and the Brierley map-only guide which I could easily keep in a pocket. This worked really well for me and I would happily take both with me again.

What did you do/Where did you go after your Camino?

In June 2017, we finished our six week Camino and spent four nights in Santiago. Then we took the bus down to Porto (about 3 hours) and spent four nights there. It was a wonderful area to visit with many and varied ways to spend your time. I have already recommended the city to family and...

    Low vision walking

We met a group near Ferreiros a few days ago: two men who had very low vision and had guide dogs, plus what seemed like a support crew of about four other men who were hiking with them. The support crew were very vocal/communicative about what was coming up and they were all moving along at...

    Brierley Maps-only book questions

Have been using the Brierley maps-only guide in combination with the Village to Village guide as a Kindle book on my phone for the past four weeks on the Camino Frances. I would definitely use both together again. The green options were almost always well marked, both initially and along the...

Best ap for text -- using wifi

WhatsApp gets my vote as well. Great for my daily dispatch of a couple of captioned photos to a group.

    Camino in may!

We are about ten days ahead of you and I can confirm that it is seldom you will not have another pilgrim within eyesight. You are in for the most amazing experiences. Buen Camino!

    Guide App

I have the Brierley maps-only book and the Village to Village guide by Anna Dintamen that I bought as a Kindle book but access on my phone through the Amazon app. The combination has worked really well for the past two weeks.

Albergues with family rooms - recomendations (CF)

We just stayed at Casa Ibarrola in Pamplona. You would need to call them and ask about their "apartments" which are on the 3rd & 4th floors. The apt. we were in had three bedrooms - with six single beds on total - plus a pretty good kitchen (what we saved on eating in covered the extra room...

    One way ticket

I am fairly sure that in practical terms, you need to be able to prove (if requested!) that you intend to leave the Schengen zone within 90 days so either a true "return" ticket or an onward & outward ticket would do the trick. To be 100% positive, give the French Embassy a call.

    One way ticket

This from the French Embassy in Wellington: "As of the 21 December 2007, New Zealand passport holders and citizens of the following countries do NOT require a visa for a stay of up to 90 days in countries that are part of the Schengen Agreement: Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina...

    Best Spanish language apps

I spent 10-20mins. a day on Duolingo for about three months and found it a great way to build up some vocabulary (admittedly, a small portion of which was very useless!) and basic sentence structures. If you have a digital library membership (at least from a U.S. library), you may have access...
