I’m sure lots will share their fondness of the Meseta - while I agree I loved that rolling meditative section I understand personal preferences/differeces regarding geography. My only comment is on your ‘end stage’ - Muxia - I fell in love with that ending and prefer it to Finesterre (though in...
I have used Booking extensively for 8 years of post-retirement travel in Europe. I ONLY ever work directly in the Booking app (good practice replying to most things that are app driven). Hotels/Hostels/Albergues message/communicate with booking directly through them and you can always do the...
May United flight into Lisbon on time, 30min through immigration.
June TAP flight Malaga-Lisbon on time loading but delay on ground with no air on hot day. Delay on ground in Lisbon waiting for a transfer bus to take us to the terminal.
June United flight Lisbon-Newark on time. Security...
I’ve waked three different Camino’s and each time took 1-3 weeks afterwards to sit on the Mediterranean or relax elsewhere. Best re-entry medicine. Couldn’t have imagined returning to the USA immediately afterwards. Also - think about spending extra time in Santiago… what a joy to sit sipping...
This is correct. It’s really not that confusing. I returned from Greece last month and the three day rule was easy to follow as the time of your flight the day you travel is irrelevant.
Woolly Clothing Company (Seattle) - their tips (long & short crew, v-, and henley shirts are still 100% merino. Some of their other clothing items may have a blend. Check ‘details’ fir any product. Shirts are 2 or 3 weights, ultralight, everyday, heavyweight. Sometimes stocks are low (after...
Chaco’s are saved me! On my second Camino (Portugués 2017) I injured my plantar (I used to be a runner so I know the injury) puddle jumping (came down on round rock just beneath the surface of water). The weight of them were never an issue with me because they are a true rugged hiking sandal...
I was going to suggest you might be over thinking it. Part of a Camino is going with the flow, what feels good/right in the moment. I actually left SJPP 5 May (2016). Had beautiful mild sunny weather - a few days later I heard it was sleeting sideways! Spring in the Pyrenees! Before SJJP I was...
I use Chacos - yes they are heavy as been mentioned by others but they are hiking sandals and many a day I just hiked in them (with a smart wool sock). Also saved my ‘hiny’ when I has a foot injury on the Portugués route as they allowed me to continue walking.
I don’t see it as ‘giving up’ but applying what our Caminos have taught us about going with the flow, adapting, changing expectations. I too have done three Caminos. French, well that was magical! Portugués from Lisbon was a lesson in patience & adjusting - after a foot injury at Tomar it had me...
I think the only truth here is that it’s the middle of the winter, most of us are a little bored, nearly all of us would rather be walking and so this is what you get with a Perrigrino with too much time on their hands 😉
I started the first week in May in 2016. Was actually relishing the fact it might be quieter (I did CF the year before). Turns out I left just days before the 100th Anniversary of Fatima (Fatima pilgrims branch off from the Portugués route about a week north of Lisbon). Hordes of people...
I am 39 years in recovery and have walked 3 Caminos. I’ve not sought out a meeting while walking instead focusing on the peace & serenity the path brings and quiet reverence of Cathedrals (I’m not religious, but deeply spiritual). And the nice part is I never felt any drinking pressure from...
I think a loan is fine if it fits your financial priorities - that will allow you to focus on the experience. A year from now I’d rather be paying off a lifetime of memories for a Camino than a sofa!!! Buen Camino !!!
I’ll be a lone wolf here. Unless you’re 90 or have a stage 4 (something) what’s the urgency? One of the best things my Camino’s (3) have taught is patience. They’ve been here for 1200 years they’ll be here tomorrow, next month, next year. There comes a point where I think it’s a little...
