Felt the same when I did the Portuguese and part of the Norte after doing the Frances. Missed the Camraderie which I regained by doing SJPP to Burgos on CF in 2019. Arrived in Bilbao today and bussing tomorrow to Burgos to rejoin the CF for a week or 2. I’ll let you know how I find it and I’ve...
So many on repeat Camino visits may only do sections of the route so the data could be very misleading. I myself will hopefully be starting again at Burgos on Saturday but only likely walk for 2 weeks or so so unlikely to be in the data at all apart from where I rest my head.
In October 2017 in the Irish Pub in Santiago I bumped into and spoke to Jasper Carrot (British Comedian) and his wife. They had completed the Camino from Sarria and was intrigued by the number that walked as as far from SJPP. He lived in Spain but his work commitments restricted how much time he...
Thanks, im still hoping by travelling alone and happy to go with the flow that the Camino will provide as prebooking takes the edge of the experience. But always good to know what is actually open.
Ladies, those of you travel alone have always had my total respect and yes of course the matters very much needed to be reported and dealt with appropriately.
Talking of accommodation that is open, Im hoping to rejoin the CF at Burgos on Saturday the 11th. Is there a relatively updated list of albergues/hostels etc I can download. Ive seen one somewhere but it looked like it was created in 2017?
Hi Sara, following your post and yes its been making me smile.
Ive bitten the bullet and booked a flight to Bilbao on Thursday 9th. If that goes smoothly will get myself a bus over to Burgos on Friday and rejoin the CF and head west into the Meseta Saturday the 11th.
Im sure you will enjoy it. My profile photo is at the split where you make the choice which of the 2 you head to first. This was in 2016 after I had walked the whole of the CF.
Good luck with your flight.
I was considering another spontaneous mini Camino on the CF by getting a last minute flight over to Bilbao between 9-14th of June and getting a bus/coach to Burgos and joining the route there. Good priced tickets but the airport chaos in the UK and mass cancellations of flights during this very...
As nice as it is to get live updates from the Camino its far more more important that you savour the experiences and not be stuck on your phones. I used to do the odd social media update after 10pm lock down and nights out before I drifted off into a well earned sleep.
When I walked CF from SJ to Santiago in September/October 2016 I can say from start to finish I met and spoke to whilst walking or over a coffee/beer etc as little as 15 Brits. Didnt bother me in the slightest of course, had the pleasure of meeting folk from all over the world. The Group of...
Thanks for that. I'm not always known for my Common sense but having done the CF from SJ-Santiago-Atlantic in 2016 and from SJ to Burgos in 2019 as I'm getting my fitness back I'm seriously thinking of getting myself to Burgos and starting again from there. Yes this will be going through the...
Hi Rachel, so what would you say about the terrain for say a couple of weeks beyond Bilbao? I know I'm not up to it yet if its as tough as the first week from Irun.
I have only walked the Del Norte from Irun to Bilbao in May 2018. I had previously walked the CF 2016 and Portuguese 2017. I was at the time in my late 50's and in decent hiking shape although I will accept that I have never been a mountain goat on the steeps. I actually on the whole found it...
Peter, you were meant to get lost and the Camino provided you to help Esther during her moment of need.
As for the original question, yes in 2016 from Sarria I did find it a bit of a circus to Santiago. But whether it was other walkers you recognised from earlier in your experience or you...
Thanks for taking the time to reply, that has made me feel a bit more optimistic and as I hinted at before my previous Camino experiences have been 'go with the flow' and you will be alright and the next positive experience is just round the corner. Just considering jumping on a flight to Bilbao...
Hi there, did the Portuguese from Porto starting mid October 2017 and Northern Portugal and Galicia were experiencing Forest and trail fires. Never got close to the Camino route but we did see the smoke in the distance. They say never tell the Devil your plans so I'm sure now Ive said that it...
Very interesting and helpful thread. It will not be my first Camino but was considering getting myself to Burgos and walking for 10-14 days in mid June depending on logistics. Having walked the Frances, Portuguese and part of the Del Norte before and never pre-booked a bed. This was part of the...
Have seen the virtual Camino advertised via caminoforgood.com and in theory sounds like an excellent idea to generate much needed money for those owning and running the albergues to get back on their feet for the future. I am more than happy to relive the memories of my 2016 Camino Frances...
