Is my daily average goal too ambitious?

We averaged 23.5kms/day walking 34 days but our group were in the 62-65 years age demographic and were not restricted on available time to complete. Also had 3-4 rest days along the way.

    Thank you also. Very useful.

    Thanks very much.

Self guided tour organisers, Via Francigena

I am starting to look at options for a group of us to walk the later stages of the Via Francigena from West of Florence to Rome around the third quarter of 2023. Similar to when we walked the Camino Frances, we will have some non-walking partners who will be doing their own thing and have a hire...

Packing Strategy when using Luggage Transportation Service

I think we were allowed up to 19 kg of weight each when we had our bags transported ahead each day and used a lightweight Eagle Creek wheeled bag with a padlock. Experienced no issues.

    Organised tour or do-it-yourself?

We used The Way Experiences (a trademark of Cumbres Travel based in Madrid). They pre-booked all our accommodation in advance and also daily baggage transfers. Everything was fine without any hitches.

    Camino Travel Agent recommendations

I should add, we met several individuals walking on their own who did the same as us. The fact that they weren’t staying in municipal albergues or other communal accommodation did not seem to mean they were having less of a Camino experience or not socialising along the way. We are still in...

    Camino Travel Agent recommendations

JoAnna, as you will have seen, a good proportion on this forum will advise against pre-booking but it is entirely your choice. We did pre-book the whole route in advance. We were a group of 6 joined by a further 6 family and friends at various points along the route. Despite having to keep to...

    Start in the rain

We started out from St Jean to Roncesvalles on 1st September 2 years ago. It rained for most of the first five hours and got quite misty the higher we got, so didn’t have great views on the ascent. However, by mid afternoon it cleared and we enjoyed good weather on the descent to Roncesvalles...

    Sandals.

Teva sandals for me. Wore them all the time after a day’s walk.

    Organised tour or do-it-yourself?

We walked the CF with accommodation pre-booked right through from the start, along with daily luggage transfers. We were a group of 11 walkers, the majority aged 60+, together with one other spouse who was not fit enough to walk but wanted to accompany her husband and drove a hire car to the...

If you want to take 4 rest days on the CF, where would you stop?

We stayed extra days in Logrono, Burgos, Leon and Vilafranca del Bierzo. Reasons were: - Desire to schedule rest days every 7-8 days through the work - At least in the case of the first 3, to stay in larger towns/cities with more infrastructure, e.g. nice to get away from the standard Camino...

Advice on coastal route from Porto versus internal route

Thanks to all for your input. Lots of options. Having walked the Frances I fully understand the comment regarding the Camino "vibe"! By the same token, having walked that I think we are prepared to mix it up a little this time around with a mixture of the internal and coastal route.

Advice on coastal route from Porto versus internal route

Having walked the Camino Frances in 2017, the same group of us are planning to walk the Camino Portugues starting in Lisbon in third quarter 2019. From Porto, we are trying to decide whether to take the internal route, or alternatively walk the coastal route (Porto/Vila do Conde/Esposende/Viana...

I Walk; Spouse Drives - Doable?

A group of us did the whole of the CF last September/October. The spouse of one of our party couldn’t walk long distances so opted to drive. About 50% of the time she met up with us when we stopped for lunch. We opted to have our luggage transported ahead of us each day and stayed in small...

Could be the best place ever on the CF

We stayed there during our Camino last September and wished we had stayed an extra night. Great place. I vaguely remember that the lady at check in had some attitude but it wasn’t personal as she applied it to everyone who checked in!

Walking - June or September 2019

We walked 1 Sept to 9 Oct 2017 and only had half of one day with rain and that was day 1. Must have been lucky!

    Availability of Instant ice Packs

Hi, am arriving in St. Jean 5 weeks from today with friends/family to start the Camino. Training has gone well but I am having to manage an ankle problem that occasionally flares up (have gone through appropriate medical consultations and just need to manage it). Whilst I know I can ask for ice...
