I've done a quick search and can't find this addressed, though I'm sure there must be something... For those of you who are current or retired law enforcement officers, do you carry your flat badge with you? I'm leaving tomorrow and thought I would bring it, but it is another 8 ounces.... :)

    Starting Camino Frances April, 2019

I have just completed a reservation with the Auberge Beilari. It is listed on the 2018 favorite albuergues list found elsewhere on this site. AND it's across the street from the Pilgrim's Office. After all, I wouldn't want to walk too far, you know! 😉

Do you know where you are spending the night in SJPDP?

Mobile phone pouch for backpack straps

All depends on where you put it. When I have my pack on, I usually have it clipped to my waist belt where I can easily get to it for that quick picture. After taking my pack off, I clip my phone to a belt loop where it does move around more, but it doesn't bother me.

Mobile phone pouch for backpack straps

In the many years that I have been hiking and backpacking, I settled with a Cliphanger on my phone. I can attach on a belt loop, my waist belt, a shoulder strap, almost anywhere. And it's small enough that I can still fit my phone in my pants pocket if I choose. https://www.cliphanger.com/

Can't get a response from Refuge Orisson, what to do?

I sent an email on January 4 and got a reply and invoice yesterday (Jan 18) from them. After paying through PayPal, I got a second email confirming my reservation for April 13 within a couple of hours. Interestingly, Jean-Jacques also wrote a note advising that if I were looking for somewhere...

Thanks for those positive words which come exactly when I need them! No matter how much I prepare, I feel so unprepared. When I backpack in the wilderness, being unprepared for conditions can be a matter of life and death. I have to continually remind myself that I'll be in civilization and...

I'm starting the Frances second week in April, I hope to see you on the trail and we can share our newbie experiences! Laurie

Thanks, Dorpie! Yes, I've had several people I hike with speak disparagingly about walking through civilization on roads with shelter and hot meals as if self-reflection and challenges can only be found in certain places that need to be without electricity or cell service or plumbing. Funny...

Thanks for the message! Since you are a seasoned veteran, I look forward to your input. Do you plan to stay in Orisson? On your previous trips, did you go at this same time of year? (Embarrassed to say I had to look up Uist beach on Google Earth -- what an amazing place!) Laurie

Thanks so much! That's a resource I haven't looked into. But I will now!

    Starting Camino Frances April, 2019

I've booked my flight from Southern California to Dublin. I'm planning to spend a few nights there to adjust to time and shake off the weariness of the long plane flight, then fly to Biarritz on Ryanair, then bus/train to SJPP. I want to check in around April 10, and start my journey ahead of...
