I enjoyed walking the Napoleon route in the mist and fog. From Orisson onward it’s not much of a climb if I remember correctly. Roncesvalles was not my thing . If I would do it again I would push on to the next village.
I had no problems finding albergues during that time last year except for Portomarin. There were lots of school classes on the camino then. I went to the next village and really liked the albergue there Casa Garcia in Gonzar.
My plan so far end of April: Santarem Camino de Tejo to Fatima, Camino Nascente to Tomar, Camino Central to Porto. I will decide when there what Camino to walk to get to Santiago but very interested in the Spiritual. I have 28 days. Doable?
I love my Salomons. They are .5 size larger than my regular shoes. Lately I started wearing compression socks instead of woolen thicker hiking socks. I think I would be ok with a size 8 nit 8.5 as well.

Started in SJPdP mid-May and I just passed the Cruz de Fero. Had lots of rain all along the way so far and it gets quite cold in the evening. Unseasonably wet and cold according to the locals. So layers is what you most probably want.
Walked up to Orisson from SJPP today 5/14. Sun came out on the way up. Around 12 pm it started raining and now it is so foggy that you cannot see the valley below. About 8 degrees. Typical mountain weather forever changing. No idea what’s going on further on up.
Hi Steve, it will be my first camino as well starting from SJPP on May 14th. I have been watching the weather and it can still get cold in the Pyrenees. Maybe not hammock weather unless you bring a quilt. From what I learned on the forum it seems advisable to make a reservation for Orisson if...
