SJPDP to Roncesvalles. Stop in Valcarlos? Or go the Napoleon Route?

I enjoyed walking the Napoleon route in the mist and fog. From Orisson onward it’s not much of a climb if I remember correctly. Roncesvalles was not my thing . If I would do it again I would push on to the next village.

    Best Alberges in SJPDP?

I stayed in the Gite Ultreia and liked it a lot: https://www.ultreia64.fr/. Very close to Beilari and the camino office.

    Sarria to Santiago in May

I had no problems finding albergues during that time last year except for Portomarin. There were lots of school classes on the camino then. I went to the next village and really liked the albergue there Casa Garcia in Gonzar.

I saw Quite a few cyclists When I walked last year. I believe the route for biking is Not Always the same than the walking camino.

    Salomon shoes and sizing up

I love my Salomons. They are .5 size larger than my regular shoes. Lately I started wearing compression socks instead of woolen thicker hiking socks. I think I would be ok with a size 8 nit 8.5 as well.

    Lost hearing aids

So sorry to hear about that. Not easy to keep track of them walking the camino. I had distress when I opened the pouch and they were not there. But then found them. Thanks again for the gift of the batteries. Very much hope that your hearing aids show up. Monika from Virginia

    Weather?

Started in SJPdP mid-May and I just passed the Cruz de Fero. Had lots of rain all along the way so far and it gets quite cold in the evening. Unseasonably wet and cold according to the locals. So layers is what you most probably want.

    current condition on route napoleon

Walked up to Orisson from SJPP today 5/14. Sun came out on the way up. Around 12 pm it started raining and now it is so foggy that you cannot see the valley below. About 8 degrees. Typical mountain weather forever changing. No idea what’s going on further on up.

    My first Camino

Hi Steve, it will be my first camino as well starting from SJPP on May 14th. I have been watching the weather and it can still get cold in the Pyrenees. Maybe not hammock weather unless you bring a quilt. From what I learned on the forum it seems advisable to make a reservation for Orisson if...
