My plan is not to have a plan, is that the point of the Camino?

Camino Portugues, at least when I walked it from Lisbon to SdC a few years ago, was mostly populated by German pilgrims. Most of those I met and talked to could speak more or less only German or English. Or only German. But it seemed the ancient language (using your arms, mostly) worked well for...

    Camino Family Experience

Hi dear, when reading this, I wasn't sure you're describing your way of walking caminos or mine, actually. 🤣

    The ticking clock

This wonderful thread and your answers to it reminded me of something. When I had to go in my early twenties to the doctor(s) prior to get permission to start working on my pilot license. The psychologist asked "why do you want to fly"...and I answered "because I love to fly". The same for...

LIVE from the Camino Bizkarreta all places closed

yes I kept going and going, it was still early afternoon since I started from Valcarlos well before sunrise - the albergue there was opened btw. and I had no prior reservation. I planned to have an easy day with stop at Bizkarreta...but you all know about our plans on camino. 😂 And then I took a...

LIVE from the Camino Bizkarreta all places closed

Hi guys, if you think about staying overnight in BIZKARRETA on camino francés at this time of the year (winter), you should know that all places including those listed on Gronze website as opened all year round were actually closed (22/01/2024). Even the one casa I found available on Booking -...

What's the one thing in your pack, that you absolutely CANNOT do without...and why?

It's more about having fun with that "rule" than taking it all too seriously. 😉 Personally, I don't sleep outside when on camino so I don't need a tent and other necessities, so for me packing light means not wear more than 5 kg including water and a bit of food (I'm well over 70 kg right now)...

What's the one thing in your pack, that you absolutely CANNOT do without...and why?

I'm affraid the original recommendation says you shouldn't pack more than 10% of your body weight. So when you dropped 16 kg... 🤣 Anyway, congratulations, your knots and bolts will love you for this effort. I should have done it too pre-camino but there was simply no time and energy for it so...

    Camino Del Norte or Frances?

I didn't walk it recently but back in 2017. What you said about costs being higher than on CF was true even then. Mind you, September is still high season in many vacation resorts you pass (and in many you would probably look for a bed for night) on the way. So costs and also availability might...

What's the thing with pilgrims and scenic detours?

Well I only read yesterday in a book about camino the scientists took many years of research to conclude there wasn't any battle around Clavijo in the history and all of the rumors were nice and long lived...but only a fairy tale.

Camino del norte from biarritz cathedral.

Hi Andrew, I've started in 2017 directly from Biarritz airport terminal and got my first stamp into my credential (bought in advance here at the forum from Ivar's e-shop) from the customs officer in the arrivals hall. There's a way how to go under the highway (check online maps) and come to...

    Dangerous dog before Triacastela

Exactly. Don't let this put you off your camino, please. I love dogs and surely met a lot of them on my 5 caminos but I mostly took advantage and pet them and played with them. Even with the barking lot, they usually changed mind after I started to talk to them in kind tone and invited them to...

Will I make the 14:52 train to SJPdP if my plane lands in Biarritz at 12:50

Easily, my dear. No worries - that's a basic mindset you will use a lot very soon! Once I started the camino directly from BIQ airport and got the first stamp right there from an officer who checks your passport (I went for Norte that time). But the connection to SJPP is great. Buen camino! :-*
