I am planing on doing the Coastal route in Portugal next may and would like to do it over 10-12 days, I have read that starting from Mathosinhos is recommended, has anyone got a route plan and distances. I did 130k of the French Way this year from San Jan to Estella so Im no stranger to walking...
im so jealous that you are going, youl do fantastic and youl have the odd moan there too but the positives and the lols youl have will so outway them, its an amazing experience :)
Jacotrans are a great service, I wasnt staying anywhere is Estella the last day as we were getting a bus from there when we finished so we sent them to one of the albergues and picked up from there. We booked online before we left but its cheaper to do it when you are there its only €5 we paid...
I found two 500ml bottles at either side of my bag were the best and easier to reach, i bought them here before I left in Lidl, my friend brought a hydration pack and ended up ditching it two days in as they are heavy, you cant tell when they are nearly empty, not as quick to fill and the water...
Im not long back from doing 5 days from San jan to Estella and i love it, I did the alternative route Valcarlos the first day as weather conditions were not great on the napoleon route but by god it was tough too, i never realised or read how rough it was before I left as i was set on doing...
Might be good to look into route 2 in case like us in August we were advised to go the alternative route as the weather was bad on over the Pyranees on Naploeon route, dont be fooled as this route is just as tough.. Either way you will love it just study it as much as you would the Napoleon...
