July/August 2012 To walk the Camino

You can book in advance if you are planning on staying in hostals/hotels. I did this for the CI in 2010 (Holy Year), and that was in the autumn. It is not expensive either. Going in the summer you will need to book, wear a hat and carry reserves of water. You'll love it.

First time peregrinos doing El Camino Ingles

Mention of the hotel Vicente reminds me of something I should share. My last day on the Camino Ingles I did from Sigüeiro. Following the Camino through a little village on the back road (so I didn't see the hotel Vicente), I noticed a small chapel just before the Camino comes to join the main...

    Rosary Beads

I wished I had taken up the offer of my parish priest who wanted to lend me a rosary for the camino. I kept getting lost trying to count on my fingers. But I got a nice one in the cathedral shop in Santiago. They have a lot of beautiful things there. Now I am ready for the next time, and...

    Hostal Recommendation

I second your recommendation. Antonio and his parents are just great, and the food is too. On the CI last year I got two nights there, using their smart taxi arrangement (Antonio picks you up at the end of one day, and puts you back in the same place the next). PrIobably the best stay I had in...

    Some interesting observations

You may have a long camino ahead now but it sounds like you made a good start Methodist Pilgrim with one confession and penance and your wonder at the effect of this. I pray your spiritual journey leads you on to resolving these issues, the most essential preferably well before you die. God bless.

    Disappointed with my hiking shoes

Like KiwiNomad, I had this problem with Merrell Moab Ventilator. Had bought this shoe for its light weight and suppposed coolness and trained in Norwegian forests for months without problems. Worked fine in the dry, but in the wet in Galicia got soaked, resulting in super blisters. Hard to know...

    SNORING!! I am the Champion!

To juniorista, a word of advice from a fellow sympathetic snorer. You can have your single accomodation and do the Camino too. This year I did the Camino Ingles and stayed in hostales, where I had a single room with en suite bathroom and all for around €30 per night. I booked ahead, but found...

    Official Pilgrim's Office website

Well, perhaps not quite fair to call the Netherlands and Germany Protestant countries. Actually Germany is about 60% Christian, and about half of these are Catholics. In the Netherlands, which has had a sharp decline in religious affiliation, Catholicism is the largest single religion and...
