I visited seven doctors before I finally got some relief. Three years of total agony! The second shot of cortisone, shot into the exact spot, helped. Wearing size 11.5 boots in a 9.5 size shoe helps keep it at bay. Two caminhos down and I'm still crossing my fingers. Best of luck to you as I...
Absolutely! While walking the Portuguese this past autumn I stopped in Porto and had a very clean strait razor shave. And on the way back to Lisbon i stopped again for another. I don't think I can get a shave like that in the States anymore. Certainly not where I live.
In Larrasoana there’s a small grocery around the corner from the Nicolas albergue. The fellow that runs that place is a sweet, generous character. I’d stop there, but make sure you bring him a CD.
I promised myself over and over again I would not compare the second with the first. It was the best promise I ever made - and kept - to myself. And yes, my first was the Frances and the second was the Portuguese (from Lisbon) and both were incredibly experiences. When I walk my third I’ll make...
I walked that same timeframe as you and it truly was a bit daunting. As far as wet feet, I hated it. No, I did not get blisters and , for the most part, never really noticed. But, I didn’t like it. I fly with dry.
I also highly recommend Superfeet insoles. I use "carbon" (currently called "run"), the thinnest insole they make. It's like walking barefoot. I've walked approximately 2,000 miles a year for the past 4 years and haven't suffered any serious pain. Expensive, but worth every penny.
I walked the Portuguese route this past October and enjoyed it completely. It's almost like walking two caminhos in one: Lisbon to Porto where you may not see a soul the entire day and then Porto to SdeC where it's hard not to see a soul. As it was very hot the first half of the camino, I would...
Funny, I left Lisbon October 1 and never confronted a mosquito. It was the flies that tormented me. I found the first half of the Camino Portuguese to be wonderful. In fact, I found it so wonderful I may walk it again in March.
Yes, old NYSE's sand is running low and that's why, after completing the Camino Portuguese from Lisbon in November, I want to go back. You see, I left a part of myself on that trail 👣 and now I want to go back and find it (or relive it).
Having taken that same path out of Lisbon this past October, I can attest, there are some hairy stretches. I quickly learned Portuguese drivers don't slow down when passing a pilgrim and most don't slide to the other side of the road even when the opportunity exists. Given that, i did have one...
