    Planned tour with transport support for walking Camino Portugués

    I (M65) did the full Camino Frances in 2022. My 87 year old father joined me in Sarria. Each day we looked at the map and he would go 6-10 KM depending on the terrain. Usually at lunch he would taxi ahead and be waiting for me at our pre-booked lodging (b**king.c**). Worked out great and he...

    A word of warning on trail runners or light weight shoes.

    I celebrate your wisdom and wish I had know this last year. My feet were getting pounded, I ended up with some awesome new inserts from the Pilgrim Store in Sahagun that set me up for success for the rest of the Camino Frances. Switched to the Altra Olympus and will stay there for the Norte in...

    Looking for men to walk the Frances route;

    Mark, hope you have an awesome adventure on the Frances. I did it last year right before turning 65. Planning on the Portuguese in May 2024 and if finances allow, taking the train to Ponferrada picking up the Invierno. All this to say, love seeing someone else "older" than I out on Camino!

    Another option is to download an app that allows you to spoof your location. I used Fake GPS when testing the great Camino Ninja. Just checked Android and Apple app stores and there are many options. Buen Camino!

    Early morning coffee

    This is a great topic with many threads. Last year, I took instant coffee packets, a 220v immersion heater and a REI cup recommended by someone on this forum. I got up 30 minutes before departure, made my coffee and drank it while packing my bag and other "duties". Coffee is a staple and...

    Rain shell in June & July for Camino Frances

    I used a lightweight Frog tog suit for cold and wet weather. Used it more for wind and cold weather than for rain. But when it did rain, I was happy to have it.

    May 22, 2023, Biarritz to SJPP 4:30pm?

    Highly recommend that quick shuttle trip from the Biarritz airport to SJPDP. You get a great preview of Day 1 walking scenery, and they drop you off at a convenient spot downtown. I did the same last May and wish I was going to be there starting again this year!

    How do you manage to overcome your language learning laziness?

    How do I overcome language barriers? Download Google translate. Type what I want to say and then read to the person (or show it to them.) Used with great success in the Netherlands, Spain and Germany in 2022. Buen Camino!

    Cell Phone Usage

    I walked from SJPDP to Santiago in May-June 2022. I have T-Mobile, for $15 a month I went to ADD On's and selected One Plan Plus. It has enhanced international data and speed. You can read up on their standard international plans, I just wanted to have access to a speedier connection for...

    Tips for securing a bed at Albergue de La Faba during the busy September season on Camino Frances

    I stayed there in late May 2022 (La Escuela de la Faba). The bar and restaurant were delightful. The accommodations were satisfactory (less the normal snoring and pilgrim noises.) Lots of sinks and clothes lines for laundry. I was up and out early to continue the climb to O'Cebreiro to...
