We started the Camino del Norte on August 5th. We were spoiled to mostly have the trails to ourselves for 30 days. There were batches of pilgrims at certain points. Many Spaniards walked for a week or 10 days from Bilbao, Santander or Gijon. In general though there were not that many walking...
We’ve finished day 2 on the Norte. Saw very few pilgrims in Irun. Walked with one pilgrim to San Sebastian and saw only two others. Sat for an hour having leisurely lunch at Pasaia. Didn’t see a single pilgrim walk by to the ferry.
Saw a few more pilgrims today from San Sebastian. Maybe 15...
For the information of Canadian travellers, we flew Vancouver to Madrid via Munich on July 31 with no issues.
As of now Spain considers Canada a low risk country so no vaccine or PCR test was required. HOWEVER, even to transit through Germany we had to have proof of vaccination or negative PCR...
To those currently on the Camino, is everything still pretty much cash-based or have merchants and albergues switched to non-cash transactions because of Covid?
