My husband and I did the Frances from SJPdP in the Olympus trail runners, non GTX. Like you, we chose the extra padding bc of the varied terrain as usually we use Lone Peaks on natural trails, but there is considerable rocky or paved terrain at times on the Frances and we appreciated the...
Both my husband and I did the Camino in April and May of this year in the Altra Olympus. We are both long time users of Lone Peak for our usual weekend hikes of +/- 10 miles often on lovely pine needle cushioned paths, but as we started to train for the Camino and added some road walking, we...
We used Find Penguins on our recent Camino Frances (ended May 17). It is an awesome app and leaving the tracker running uses minimal phone battery. We posted almost daily, friends and family could follow, including the kids who could watch the footprints move across the country. Then it can...
I booked a car from the rail station via Booking.com yesterday, mostly bc I was already on there arranging a hotel. It was super easy. I ended up getting a small sedan via Budget and was happy I could pick up at the train station rather than the airport.
We had a fantastic vegetarian pilgrim dinner at Las Hadas Albergue Peregrinos Camino Santiago in Reliegos on the Camino Frances. Nice place to stay also. We also had a good vegetable heavy meal at Carea Bistro near the Plaza Mayor in León. After Astorga, it became easier to find vegetarian...

The bus was scheduled with Alsa bus lines via their website the night before. They had downloadable tickets. They provide one bus/day for now and it leaves at 12 noon from the Pamplona bus station and arrives in SJPdP at 1345. Our bus only had about a dozen people on it. We paid 21 euros each.
We just took the bus direct from Pamplona to SJPdP today. No COVID pass needed to cross from Spain to France, and there is no masking mandate in France as in Spain either. No one checked our Spanish SpTH QRS codes when we bought our ticket or when we boarded the bus, though we did obtain it...
I recently moved from Altra Lone Peaks to the Altra Timp. I wanted just a bit more cushion for the mixed trails of dirt and concrete walking. The Timp are still nice and wide. I wear a women’s US 8.5 in everyday shoes and a 9.5 for hiking shoes. As a reference, I have worn Altras since 2009 as...
