Good morning from BC! I just bought a Gregory Jade 38 EX/Small, because I was lucky enough to run into a wonderful MEC salesperson who spent time fitting me. I'm now 4'11", and have an extremely short back waist length due to a back issue. I'm looking forward to going to Portugal to do the...
What a great opportunity to give a shout-out to Jose at Escalinata! Finding myself suddenly doing elder care for a dear friend who had experienced a medical event before her arrival, Jose realized my situation and was most kind. I will always remember his knowing and compassionate smile.

Hi Dianne,
A few years ago, I stayed at the Albergue O'Cebreiro. There's also Casa Carolo, Casa Valina and Casa Frade, each of which might have single rooms. Reservations are recommended in the summer. Pedrafita O Cebreiro (4.5 km off route) also has accomodation.
Hello Katey,
What a fantastic project! I joined it after my caminos. As a very slow walker, it took me three trips to complete the Camino. I was delighted to find this digital community as a way to reflect on the three trips, contribute to the knowledge pool, and plan for the next one. I...
Hello Darragh,
Pamplona is a great place to start. I did the Camino in three trips, as I'm a slow walker. Could you take the ALSA bus from Madrid to Pamplona?
all the best,
Tacey
Hello Dem,
Thank you very much for your email. I just got a new Gregory Jade 38 pack and am looking forward to using it on the Rota Vicentina.
all the best, Tacey
Hello Sophia,
I travelled to the Camino in 2016 with a backpack and a small piece of luggage which had clothes appropriate for a conference later in Denmark. I moved the luggage along from Burgos to Leon by putting it on the bus. It remained in Leon until I got there, and then I put it on the...
Hello,
In case my previous response didn't take->
In 2016, I took the overnight train from Paris to Bayonne in a 4-bed couchette, and it worked fine. It's like a hostel on wheels. In Bayonne, I took the bus to SJPP. I would do it again.
all the best,
Tacey, who's now 73
Dear Thyme,
I have walked three sections of the Camino over a few years during the summer-early fall with the same backpack that I bought in 2007. I just decided to get a new one, a Gregory 63 which weighs 1.61 kg, as I have rods in my back and want to protect it. I am also quite short, and...
Hi Dena,
I took the train from Paris to Bayonne and then bus/train to SJPP. It might be a good idea to get a hostel reservation to make sure that there's a place to stay at the outset. After that, the Brierly book is the best guide.
The deluxe bus (not that much more expensive than the regular) is a delight. If you allow yourself a day to explore Porto, it's amazing. Walking through the medieval community on the side of the river was an education in itself, as well as the museum of exploration.
Good morning Grace,
I've done the Camino in three chunks, over three trips (slow walker). The most commercialized section is from Sarria to Santiago, so it might be a good idea to look at any stretch between Pamplona and Ponferrada. Making it back to Rome in time would probably mean ending the...
Dear Helpful Person,
Next May and June 2011, I will be walking the French Way. My dear friend, Mitzi, wants to join me by bus for a 3-week stretch. Could you please suggest which 15-day walking section (no weekends) has the best bus availability between towns? The plan is for me to walk...
