    Alsa Bus and luggage

@RussGianni — very glad you got the bus ticket you need. I am *almost*as lucky — the bus I desired was sold out 5 days before, but the next one with a loooong transfer was available and will work. I grabbed it and will have a supper picnic at the bus station. :-)

    Alsa Bus and luggage

And I have also encountered “bus full” when I tried to book 2-3 days ahead. Fortunately, in each case there were three or four buses each day, and I could find one to book, although the schedule was less than optimal. Demand for buses is increasing as petrol prices have risen. I also have...

    Alsa Bus and luggage

I have ridden a few Alsa buses in the past month. (1) first if you know the bus you want buy the ticket ahead on the Alsa app, (which is much better than the Renfe app). Tickets do sell out as I have learned much to my chagrin. Set up an Alsa account and then you can put your ticket in your...

Ourense after Santiago sounds enticing — what are the must useful tourism websites?

When plans go pear-shaped …. Need Meseta strategy with a recovering bruised hip

Thank you to all. My splitting the day between bus and walking this week is doing well to maintain mobility in the now pale green hip. I now have a strategy sorted so I can walk the meseta without concern about stress injury — Jacottans. And while I am unlikely to trip over my own dog soon—...

When plans go pear-shaped …. Need Meseta strategy with a recovering bruised hip

Thank you, all. I have indeed been bus-hopping on La Estellasa from Pomona to Longrono. I did not become aware of this bus company via Google or Rome2Rio but by visiting ticket booths at the Pamplona bus station. (Local and rural bus services in the UK are equally fragmented) When I arrive...

When plans go pear-shaped …. Need Meseta strategy with a recovering bruised hip

My current hospitality has just explained Jacotrsns and given me an envelope for future reference so that is sorted. Now I just need to find the extremely local bus schedules..

When plans go pear-shaped …. Need Meseta strategy with a recovering bruised hip

I am posting this from Estella where the weather is very warm and the sun is more intense than I expected. It is amazing! You may recall two previous threads — one in which you persuaded me to walk the Meseta, and then one in I asked about three gentle days from Pamplona (why? Because two days...

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

I think I let the genie out of the bottle….. Again thank you for all the thoughtful comments!

Pamplona to Estella in three gentle days (March 18-20 ish)?

Thanks all. Booking shows casa Bastan requires 2 nights so I have sent email asking about 1night. Also glad to know about taking the road at Alto de Perdon as it might be a bit much for my knee this early in the game.

Gosh, this is excellent! Thank you!

Pamplona to Estella in three gentle days (March 18-20 ish)?

I am thinking of taking three days to walk Pamplona to Estella (or a tad further?) rather than the “stages” two. (These will be my first three days, thus spreading the 45+ km to have a warm-up to longer days.) How would you split? Keep in mind that I will be walking this week (March 18-is...

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

Thank you for all the thoughtful replies. You are right — I shouldn’t pass on the Meseta based on reports from people who walk it in August …. I am concerned about being in Burgos at Easter as crowds are not my cup of tea. Perhaps bussing around Burgos and someday visiting it on another trip...

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

Hmmm. You may have me convinced about the Meseta....on foot, not bike! "Skipping SJPDP to Panplona is skipping over some of the most beautiful countryside, the best food, and..." Are you referring to the section SJPdP-R'Valles (legendary!) , or including R'valles-Pamplona section in the...

Thank you for the replies and suggestions. For those that love the Meseta, why?

Rethinking my CF-ish route after Burgos (and I start in 7 days!)

I land in Madrid on Saturday 16 March, and have until about 25 April to be in Spain. Reaching SdC is not an important goal on this trip; exploring Spain slowly, and spending time walking and thinking -- "walking meditation" --are. My current plan is to start in Pamplona on Monday 18 March...

from SJPdP to Roncesvalles by transport in March

Thank you, everyone. I now have good leads to follow.

from SJPdP to Roncesvalles by transport in March

Thank you. The Alsa service appears to begin at the end of March. I would need transport about March 18 or so.

from SJPdP to Roncesvalles by transport in March

What are the ways to get from SJPdP to Roncesvalles by transport (ie not walking the Valcarlos Route) in March? I have not had luck getting information about a taxi. That leaves train and bus in a long anti-clockwise loop through Pamplona.
