The first time I found out about the Camino was on a cooking show about 3 years ago. In October this year, at our three week mark while on the Camino, Ian said, you are never watching cooking shows again. It took him ten days after arriving home to start planning our next Camino
It was extremely hot and many ups and downs. By the time we reached Lorca I was shattered. Ian was also finished but according to his daughter, he’s like a machine. When we arrived at Albergue Bodega, I just sat down. The lady came from behind the counter and gave me a glass of cold water.
Love your van Annie! I’ve always wanted to do vanlife but it was impossible in South Africa. So when I came to Australia and met Ian, and found that we shared likes and goals, it was like all my Christmases came all at once
It’s a 2011 transit. See on our Instagram @ikandothat. The best thing is the toilet, the dinette, the roll out kitchen cupboards.... ok the whole thing. We’re fortunate that Ian is not just a pretty face
We’ve tried to have a home for everything in the van. And when we travel we pack minimally. In the beginning we overpacked and I had enough precooked food for a family of ten. But now we just take what we need. Plus we believe in: don’t put it down put it away. Because the space is so small
I have a very unfortunate reaction to wine sigh. After one glass I always experience shortness of breath, nasal, blocked sinuses etc and the only wine that is less worse is moscato, a sweet wine in Australia. So when I have a glass I always take a couple of ventolin puffs and later...
I may just do that because, even now as I’m trying, I’m struggling. I wake up very early because I also have chronic insomnia. I just find it very hard to move purposefully within a short time. And yet I have no problem when I have to work. Perhaps, and this is my wish, I’m so filled with the...
We had one of those moments this week on a training walk when we ran out of daylight on mt. Oberon at Wilson Prom in Victoria during a 20ish km hike. We had to climb over rocks and wade through two rivers with the incoming tide. We were so scared of falling over rocks. Ian’s phone was dead and I...
Fortunately we are going to Rome and Croatia for two weeks before we start. Ian also walks at my pace. It’s the thought of getting up and starting early that makes my head spin. He also brings me coffee in bed every morning. Hope he doesn’t break that habit
As a theatre nurse I have seen many tattoos in many different places. Some were new, some were old and faded. Some I thought were nice, some I thought OMG. Some were dedicated to something or someone meaningful. Some people regretted having had them. I particularly like the ones which were in...
I saw it and asked about it at Paddy Palin 2 weeks ago and although they said it could be used on clothing, they strongly advised against using it for our sleeping bags and/liners. It left me a bit confused
I see you are South African. I am too. This happened to me a few years ago. An employment agency applied for the incorrect visa for me and I was denied. The embassy I applied to cancelled my passport after I reapplied. Yes, they did!
Fortunately, I was offered a job in Australia. I took the...
