Buen camino, @rlr9200 !
Top tip: get the map of Ferrol from the tourist office by the start point, and get them to mark the route out of town on it for you. The current roadworks make it easy to get lost, and we didn't see many waymarks as we went through the more industrial parts - they may...
Yep, that was us! We did indeed make it - though after we left you at Bar Julia the going got HARD - the combination of doing the full stretch from Betanzos to Bruma in one hit (and thus getting the toughest bit of the whole camino in the afternoon and in full heat) plus then having to do...
So @Whereswillie, how did you get on? You were walking the same week we were and I'm dying to know if yours was the group we crossed paths with at Pontedeume & Betanzos and lastly at Bar Julia - just before we headed off to tackle the mother of 'oh bugger' hills!
Hi @mishlove, the whole thing worked perfectly! We booked the baggage carriers and arranged for them to pick us up in A Coruna at 8.30am on the Sunday morning, we were in Ferrol at the precise start of the camino for 9.45am, plenty of time to have coffee at the cafe right by the waypoint (and...
Just to tie this thread up, Jacotrans provided excellent service - on the first morning they turned up on the dot to transport us to Ferrol (from A Coruna) and our bags to Pontedeume, and from there on our bags were delivered unfailingly efficiently to our onward destination. It meant we had our...
As @mig says, it's a pretty straightforward section. The part that goes through the woodland is truly to be treasured - you suddenly realise that this is the last countryside you'll walk through on your camino, and there's a spot when all you can hear is birdsong and the rush of the river (when...
Left Marantes at 7.15am, just stopped at the perfectly placed cafe bar Poligono (literally just as you come from the woodland walk into the industrial estate) - bustling (full of policemen getting their breakfasts), got our sellos and a delicious croissant & orange juice Happy bunnies :)
Now -...
We went the long way round on Sunday, and for our first day on the trail going from Ferrol to Pontedeume felt *very* long. BUT I would say it was worth it - partly because it gets you into the swing of doing longish stages and helps you find your rhythm, partly for the sense of completeness of...
We walked this section yesterday and you can't miss this place - as we turned onto a grassy path a few minutes after we'd passed the sign for the albergue we heard a lot of chatter and saw people going in and out of the gates - I thought at first there must be a village coffee morning going on...
Quick question if anyone's around now that might know - we're in Marantes tonight, planning to leave early tomorrow to try to make the noon mass at Santiago - anyone know where we can pick up our 2 sellos along the way? We had to get our second one today from tonight's accommodation (absolutely...
That's our thinking too - in fact we've been able to book a taxi with the same people that are going to move our bags for us - let me know if you would like the details!
Thanks Faith, we've taken your advice - it seemed like La Coruna would be a nicer place to spend our first night and it saves the stress of trying to catch the last train/bus to our accommodation if we were booked in Ferrol. Haven't quite worked out how we'll get to Ferrol on the Sunday...
Thank you all for your great advice! I know that afterwards we'll know how much of our stuff we didn't need (let's face it, I know that after even an ordinary holiday!) - but of course as first timers we can't get to that point until we've done the journey (there's a metaphor in there for...
Thanks for this - I'd looked at their website but didn't find any mention of the English route - I've emailed them now so keeping my fingers crossed!
:-) Yes, I think as a first timer I rather like the reassurance of having all my 'stuff' to hand at the end of a long day's walking ;-)
Hmm. Turns out xacotrans don't cover the Campano Ingles; and ideally I'd like to have access to our bags during the week rather than sending them on to Santiago.
Presumably it wouldn't be impossible (albeit a bit pricey) to book a taxi at each stopping point to take our bags to the next one...
Thanks Migeul, that's really helpful - do you have a link for the rail service? I think we might stick to our night in Coruna, for safety's sake (as you say, too much depends on the flight being on time), but if there's a train first thing in the morning that would be ideal. I'm not sure I...
Hi all,
Another question from this newbie, I'm afraid -
We're intending to fly from Heathrow to A Coruna on Saturday, but don't arrive until 8.20pm. We'd planned to stay in A Coruna overnight and catch the bus to Ferrol on Sunday morning to start our walk, but according to the timetable the...
