    The Packa

Bought mine in 2018 with whatever choice was available at the time. It's a drab greenish color, about which I care not at all. A size small fit me and over my 60lt Lumina pack perfectly fine. Light mist / rain each of the several days I spent in Santiago. Wore it each day. Stayed warm and...

Using a larger Backpack, just not filling it up. Thoughts?

I purchased an Osprey Lumina 60 for women. Larger than what I needed but the pack was super lightweight. You can read about it on their site or REI's. The belt on the pack did not have pockets, which is part of why it was so lightweight. I wore a lightweight vest over my shirt. This vest...

    What backpack did you use?

No. Wanted comfortable, large, and light weight. Got all three with Ospery Lumina 60.

Poncho quandary — Altus, Frogg Toggs, Vaude, or something else?

The Packa worked well for me. Lightweight rain jacket with a large pouch on the back to cover your pack. Put on/take off without removing your pack.

    What backpack did you use?

Osprey Lumina 60. Extremely light weight.

    Waist Packs!

Instead of a waist pack have you considered wearing a very lightweight vest that has lots of pockets in assorted sizes? I found that to be far more functional than a waist pack.

trail runners with wider toe box

Altra Lone Peak have a very wide toe box.

Women's Gregory Jade 28 pack -what do you think?

I looked at this pack. Nice but I decided against it. Went with Osprey Women's Lumina 60 Pack. Extremely lightweight. I wore a lightweight vest over my T shirt. Anything that might have gone into the belt pockets of a pack went into any one of the many pockets on my vest, which had at least...

Trail runners: Altra or Brooks, or Hoka????

Forget about brands and what works for others. This is what is important to consider: Does the footwear fit Is it comfortable Does it cause problems If the answers are yes, yes, and no, then that is the footwear you want. Could be a boot, sandal, or shoe. You'll know it when you find it.

Trail runners: Altra or Brooks, or Hoka????

I used Brooks Ariel as they seemed to be the most comfortable during my training walks. Would have preferred the wide toe box of the Altra Lone Peak, but was concerned about the zero drop. Sometimes it seemed like my knees were a bit sore after a training walk. Perhaps this would have...

3rd - 9th September: boots or trail runners?

Walked CF from SJPdP commencing September 7th, 2018. Never did I see the need for boots. That said, that was then and this is now, wear what's comfy and works for you. I wore Brooks Ariel.

    Recommended men's trousers please

Kuhl Renegade from REI. $99. Expensive but worth it. Comfortable, easy wash, and quick dry. Velcro tab on each of the back pockets that do not have a cover flap. Double cargo pockets on each leg; a pocket with the pocket. L leg inner pocket can be zipped shut. R leg pockets are just open...

    Boots or shoes?

Could be either or neither. Some folks have walked the entire route in sandals. Wear what fits, doesn't harm your foot, is comfortable, and durable.

Rain protection - ( Overkill ? or cut back to save some weight?)

I'd ditch all three ponchos and purchase one THE PACKA. Fabulous rain jacket that can be put on and taken off without removing your pack. Oversize pouch on the back of the jacket covers your pack without distorting the fit of the jacket. Pouch is made with a different fabric than the jacket...

    Power corrupts. So sad.

    Problems with Carry-on Back Packs

Re being "over the limit" on liquids. Place liquids in separate containers before they go through the exray machine. The person looking at the items on the screen won't know who owns what and won't necessarily realize that someone is taking too much liquids. Also, if you put liquids of small...
