I'd recommend the Primitivo in your situation. I wouldn't walk the Olvidado alone: too much mountain terrain with the chance of a sprained ankle (or worse), a need for some decent Spanish, and accommodations challenges. It IS beautiful and I enjoyed it (two of us 70+, last May--from Bonar only)...
Lainey: Glad you're considering the Olvidado. Hopefully these posts give you an idea of how we dealt with various "challenges." I'm hopeful of doing the Portugues this fall. Got to plan and hope!
Great news about another option, and quite reasonably priced. I don't recommend Resthy's in Pandorado even if rooms are available -- he was very uncooperative and rude to us when we were looking for a place to stay in May. If your mileage works out to get to Vegarienza, definitely get in touch...
If I recall, this is at the top of the first major climb, where you have a great 360 degree view. Another reason to have an app accessible with GPS tracks.
The website of the Casa Rural in Quintana de Fuseros says they charge 450 euro! That's probably for the entire house. I think we'll wait until I get there, see how we're "progressing," and see if we think we need to break up those days better. Thanks for all your help!
I see that Noceda is short of Labaniego -- yes, too short of a day. Anyway, we've already "stolen" a day from the Olvidado to give us a couple of shorter days on the Invierno. Congosto (tired as we may be), here we come!
Thanks, Laurie. Don't know if the Bar Losada lodgings are "permanently closed," but their message did say closed, at least for now. I may stop in and ask them when we walk through.
The woman who has a place in Cobrana (at least the one I found) said hers is not available. So we will walk all...
Having trouble locating a pilgrim-oriented place to stay in Labaniego through Cobrana. We had planned to stay in the hostal above the bar in Losada, but I just received a message that it is closed. Casa Rurals are too expensive, and the one in Labaniego has no vacancy anyway. There is a place in...
Two of us will be walking the Olvidado in mid-May. We’re having trouble finding accommodations in either Riello or Pandorado, even after checking the guides and Laurie’s thread. I’ve seen a reference somewhere to a new albergue, I think in Riello. Any ideas?
Thanks, Laurie -- you've been a wealth of information! I think we've got the right info about the mountain alternatives and are looking forward to them and the entire trip. There are several threads from the past year I need to read through completely, but I'm building my knowledge base -- as...
Two of us are planning to walk the Olvidado and Invierno in April/May of this year. How would you compare WiFi access on these routes to say, the Primitivo? Thanks. Fred
