Bom dia, living in Póvoa de Varzim I often find Pilgrims getting lost on the way to Rates.
There is an easy way, a bike lane (Ciclovia) on the old railway track leading to Famalicao. It starts right at the Metro Station (final stop) in Póvoa de Varzim.
Bom dia Barbara,
Congrats on your retirement. For October weather here a link for you: https://www.holiday-weather.com/porto/averages/october/ In Galicia the spanish "bath tube" you can expect more rain and it´s going to be cooler.
Coastal way or Central? My suggestions on the way out of...
Boa noite peregrino, I wish you a pleasant pilgrimage. I hope you will always find a bed, because the coastal is very crowded at the moment. Nearly all hotels and pensions are booked out - too many portuguese holiday makers this year.
Boa tarde, there is a video about the coastal in bird´s-eye view. Click on the second picture. Remarks: sometimes it´s a bit beside the foot path:

Btw. all albergues are open in October. Bom caminho!
School holidays in Portugal ends on September 16th. Most of the holiday makers at the coast are back to work in early September, so, you will not have any problems to find good accommodations along the coast.

Boa noite, in March albergues are open. I used to work in greater Porto. Temperature in March can be from 5º C to 20º C. Well, there is much more rain than in Fall, but it changes year by year. You can expect a week without any rain, or 2 to 3 days with heavy downpoors. To give you an idea...
Boa tarde,
Festa de São João in Porto. On the night of June 23rd to June 24th, there will be a celebration in and around Porto. This night is as loud as ever, because before 5 o'clock in the morning no one goes to bed.
Everywhere in the city is celebrated on the streets and there is a big...

From Vila do Conde to the Central way (Rates) is very easy. Right after the bridge entering Vilo do Conde take the yellow arrows to the right into Av. Figuereido Faria. The river is to your right. After 15o m slightly left uphills, still the same Avenue. On the top there is a big roundabout with...

The list starts in Lisboa. For Porto just scroll down.
If your first stay out of Porto will be Angeiras - have you already made your reservation under infoangeiras@orbitur.pt? In May it´s sometimes a bit crowdy.
Olá, the bridge was closed due to a mechanical problem. But there was a shuttle service. Depending on the ship traffic, the bridge may be closed once or twice a day, but only for 10 - 15 min. That means a little rest for the pilgrims.
Olá,
I work as hospitalero in Angeiras for 4 to 6 weeks every year. We never had problems with Tuitrans, they do a very good job. They tell you where they put your backpack. To the albergue/pension when it is open during the day,or a nearby cafe/restaurant.
