Weather of Cruz de Ferro and El Cebreiro in mid March

I have two friends, Pru and Laurie, who live in Paris and will start walking another leg of their Camino from Puente la Reina next week and they would like to have some help with what to expect for weather conditions at the Cruz de Ferro and El Cebreiro in mid March. Any information from those...

    Weather in April

I started walking this past spring from Sauveterre de Bearn in France , on April 5th. I found the April mornings in Spain to be cold, even saw frost a few mornings. That said I was comfortable with a fleece jacket and nylon wind cheater. After about an hours walking I was usually too warm and...

    Bed bugs alert

I posted this in another thread on a similar topic thought it might be helpful here too:  Last year, when I was making plans to walk the Camino this past spring, I found an English company on the Internet that sold a net mattress cover impregnated with pyrethroid, to stop bed bugs. I...

    Insect Alerts!

Last year, when I was making plans to walk the Camino this past spring, I found an English company on the Internet that sold a net mattress cover impregnated with pyrethroid, to stop bed bugs. I assumed it was similar to a mosquito netting only designed to cover a mattress . Sounded like a good...

    Insect Alerts!

They are becoming a world wide problem once again. So don't relax your vigilance no matter where you are. Some of the worlds best hotels have been infested. Have a look at these news articles from recent media reports ...

    Insect Alerts!

I read somewhere last year that if you can freeze your equipment for 48 hours that will kill both the bugs and the larva. They can live for up to a year without eating but they can't survive below freezing temperatures. So if you have or can use a freezer that your sleeping bag will fit into...

    Insect Alerts!

Just watched the horror video from National Geographic, thanks sillydoll I really needed that. Thankfully I didn't meet any of the little darlings when I walked this April and May. I noticed that google has attached an ad for a bed bug product to the YouTube video so if anyone wants to add 24...

    Poll: Best time to walk

Thanks, I don't have a Brierley's, I used the English Confraternity Guide and was very disappointed with it. An Australian friend that I met on the Camino used Brierley's and I fell in love with it. I think I will do a search in ABE Books for a used copy. I won't buy a new copy until the 2010...

    Poll: Best time to walk

I just finished walking the Camino in April and May .Started April 4th at Sauveterre de Bearn on the Vezelay route and finished in Santiago on May 22nd. It was a wonderful time to walk never crowded but lots of interesting people to meet. Just by luck I started at the right time I have a friend...

    Poll: Best time to walk

That's a great attitude to have, all the best with your Camino. You might want to do some research as to which Albergues are open at that time of year, a lot of them close at the end of October for the season.

    Credential / Pilgrim passport update

Hi Margaret and Arn: You never know we might meet up yet. I don't actually start walking until April 4th or 5th and right now I'm not certain where that location will be. Somewhere in southern France, I will be joining a friend who lives in France and she has been walking in stages for a year...

    Credential / Pilgrim passport update

Thanks Ivar. One less worry, and for some reason that I don't understand it is really important to me to use my Canadian Credential. National Pride I guess. Counting the days now. I fly to Paris on April 1st.

New albergue charges at present only on Camino Frances

I prefer this to the donation route at least this way you know what is appropriate and expected and you pay. I don't see how anyone could possiblly argue with 3 Euros a night for safe clean accommodation.

    Neda opposes alberghe charge

Unfortunately graffiti is a universal problem world wide. We certainly are not exempt here in Canada. I don't know what the solution is but if someone eventually comes up with one they should get a Nobel Prize. :?

How do they pick those adverts?

Thanks Ivar for adding the USA and Canada Amazon links. I would suggest that it is good to do some comparative shopping before making the purchase. I was interested in a book called Fumbling which was advertised at 10.50 pounds on the UK site I got the book used on the USA site for $2.66...

How do they pick those adverts?

Good Morning Ivar: I can truly say the ads are not bothering me I had to go looking to see what everyone is talking about, I just tune that stuff out without even thinking about it. On a different note though since I was on the front page looking at the ads I decided to push the paypal button...

    Poll: Best time to walk

I have not yet walked the Camino but I voted for April because I plan to start in France some where a few days walk prior to SJPDP, on April first . I plan to take about six weeks to do my Camino. I know from some research that I've done that there can still be snow storms in the Pyrenees at...
