Are you 70+ and still walking Caminos?

Great pick, Chrissy! At 73. I was inspired by a fellow on this forum named Jose, who had finished the CF at 75. I did my first at 73, my second at 76 and I'll do the Portugese +Muxia to cerebrate my 80th. I now have friends all over the world from my Caminos. They are all warm, gracious and...

Solo walkers - what kinds of food do you buy at grocery stores?

I always stock up on bananas, peanut packets and chocolate (Milka milk chocolate with hazelnuts🤩). And, I have Nestle instant coffee packets for emergency mornings when there's no coffee available. Nothing like lukewarm coffee and a chunk chocolate bar in the predawn morning!😂

How far do most typically walk before resting?

This is my strategy as well, when I can apply it; although I often change into new socks at the middle stop. Another solid rule (advice of a good friend): Stop at the first place you see. It may be the only one in town and you don't want to turn around and go back.

Cafe con Leche / Coffee on the Camino: Enquiring Coffee Lovers want to know!!

Ok...I'll admit it. No one else will so here's it is...I like an Americano. There I said it...don't judge. But, I do like an occasional cafe con leche. Back home I use a French press with 50/50 Starbucks Pikes Peak and Eight O'Clock Columbian. In Italy I still order an Americano, which is good...

Cafe con Leche / Coffee on the Camino: Enquiring Coffee Lovers want to know!!

Oh my goodness! This is so funny! I had the same thing happen in Italy! Like the Miami pilgrim above, they can get their cafe via a door in the wall, but usually standing at the bar...one and done. Good custom says if you want to sit and savor, you have to sit and wait...forever at a table...

Help me to sort my head out please?

A couple of things occurred to me as I read your opening: 1. If you’re serious about writing for a book on the Camino, you should go alone. I say this because if you’re with someone, they need your attention and you their’s. This makes note taking difficult, writing time scarce and your best...

What's the one thing in your pack, that you absolutely CANNOT do without...and why?

#1: My high tech undies🙃!! #2: my iPad Mini: books, guides, maps, journal, blogging, FaceTime with my homies...and locating ATMs🤔

What food did you ENJOY on your Camino(s)?

Ensalada mixa. I’dnot been much of salad person, but since the Camino, it’s the thing my mouth waters for all the time! Weird! Next, cafe americano and a chocolate croissant. Finally, my best meal was at a hostal in Ventosa. My dining companions were sisters from South Africa and our hostess...

I am leaving. Not Forum just yet, but Camino.

David-while your first aid and loving kindness on the Camino will be sorely missed, your knowledge can be a blessing. As a 74 year old on my first Camino, this forum was invaluable to me. Without this forum's support, I never would have attempted the journey. Your experience, wisdom and humor...

What does the 'spirit of the camino' mean to you?

I posted this somewhere before, but my last entry as I left Santiago sums up the spirit of the Camino for me: "On the Way home-10/27, Saturday How strange to ride in a car! I'm done walking miles. I took a cab to the Santiago train station. It felt false and very confining. The train arrived...

    Bedbugs

Hi, Mycroft. Before I leave. It lasts a good while. l also sprayed (really soaked) my backpack inside and out and used dry bags to separate stuff.

    Bedbugs

I agree with all the above. While they do exist (everywhere in the world), I've used permethrin and never had a problem(🙏). I do have a little spray bottle of the stuff and on occasion, I've sprayed the corners of the bed frame and the feet of the bed. My bag is sprayed before I leave and my...

    Trying to understand

When I first started thinking of walking the Camino, I found this recording on the forum. It has stayed with me throughout my journeys as a raison d’y aller. (I hope you get the version without annoying ads!) Ithaca by C.P.Cavafy (with Sean Connery & Vangelis)

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2020?

I walk with memories and sighs when I walk now. I prefer to walk a steady pace and alone, looking up at light sparkling through the trees as I go. I sigh. I dream. Not of any particular thing, but of an emotion; some simplicity. Today I walk under palms and oaks. Then, I walked under...

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2020?

    Things to ponder whilst walking

Is that a stone in my shoe or am I getting a blister? I hope they have a chocolate croissant at the next bar! What the heck was that botillo I ate last night?
