Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

Left Pocuvadlo today. I walked from the hotel down to the town with my things in my trusty camino rucksack - about 10km. A beautiful spring walk.

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

Hiked from Pocuvadlo lake up to Sitno which is the highest mountain in these parts - a mere 1007m. Great view and a nice talk with a local geologist till we were distracted by a 7-year-old with no parents in sight who came up and had to be persuaded not to toddle off the cliff. Parents arrived...

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

I've gone to Pocuvadlo lake - I've done a couple of circuits of a small hill next to the lake today. I saw butterflies, bees, a bird of prey, wagtails, a nuthatch, fish in the lake and I saw the signs of wild pigs in the woods but luckily didn't meet any.

Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, is on fire.

I am so glad the rose windows have survived unscathed. Well done to the firefighters! It sounds like they battled hard to prevent the complete destruction of the cathedral.

On-line course on Gothic Cathedrals - free

I sometimes study courses on-line at the Coursera website, and I thought I would recommend one on here called The Age of Cathedrals: https://www.coursera.org/learn/age-of-cathedrals It focuses on French cathedrals and I have just been learning about the beautiful rose windows in Notre Dame de...

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

Another walk up to the watchtower - this time I did the circular route that goes under the old ski jump. The trees are starting to blossom and I saw a small bird of prey hunting.

A walk through the woods to the local observatory. There is still snow on the mountains, but at lower altitudes spring is here.

    The memory of paella

Last night I cooked some seafood paella and I was reminded of the lovely vegetarian paella at Albergue La Casa Magica. It had prunes and roasted red peppers and was a joy to look at and to eat. Anyone got a recipe or want to suggest a reverse engineering approach? Were there nuts too? Any help...

    Avoiding the breakfast trap?

I also like to get walking for an hour or so before enjoying pan y tomate and cafe con leche. Best breakfast ever! Plenty of variation in the way it was done but it was always good. I also continued to eat it when I got home until the tomato season ended, but it was never quite as good as when...

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2018?

I visited the peaceful Pilgrim Chapel at the Benedictine monastery, Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight - to be honest, I was surprised by the lack of shells or St James though, and I realised there were different views of pilgrimage.
