I had read that in any given year, only 15% of those that embark on the Pilgrimage actually complete it. Or at least that only 15% receive a Compostela.
That seems like a very low figure, so I am curious to know if there is a place that I might get these figures. I have seen in the forum...

Once I pick myself up from rolling around on the floor laughing, I will be able to make a proper comment on your arduous training program.
But for now, I thought I'd let you know how it has efffected my husband, who will be joining me for the first 12 days of walking.
As of today, he is...
At first I thought it would be a good idea to have a sub-forum.
But the more I think about it, the more I realize that you are doing a fantastic job running this forum the way it is and I am grateful for the forum as it is now and all I have learned from it.
Unfortunately I think there are...
OMG I hadn't thought about mosquitoes. I didn't think there were any in Spain. I have been to Spain 5 times and never noticed them before.
So how bad are they?? Are they only in certain areas?
Wouldn't it be impossible to ban religion on a forum which is about a religious Pilgrimage???
And "The Way of Saint James" IS and always has been a religious pilgrimage...(where all are welcome, as Sil mentioned in her quote from the 12th century.)
So, if we separate the "Way of Saint James"...
Hi Sil
I think I tend to agree with you. And that idea has been asked for already .
As I recall in the thread "A journey of spiritual significance" that was Delecto's whole point. At least at the beginning, that is what he asked about, then it turned into something else.
There are those that...
Ruitalin seems to be very popular with many. Someone said it is always on the top 10 albergue list.
Is there such a list? And if so, where does one find it?
Re: Vicious snarling dogs
Hi Jane
I know that dogs can get very defensive if they have a litter. I had a sweet gentle dog who had a litter of pups and turned real mean if anyone came near them.
I don't really have a fear of dogs, but if I do encounter one, now I won't know what to do, as some...
Thanks falcon this sounds good too. I like the idea of waking up to Ave Maria, its one of my favorite musical pieces.
But what about the showers?? Hot water?? that will tip the scales :D
Annie
Thanks for the additional information, and for sharing the photos. It really sounds like a nice place to stay. I like the idea that no one leaves without breakfast!! That sounds like a treat from what I have read about sometimes going for the better part of the of the day before finding food.
Thanks Annie, I guess ANY shower after a long day of walking will be great!!
I heard many good things about Villamayor de Monjardin from others. I will make a note of it on my list of places to stay.
In reading through some of the threads, I have come across many with reference to cold showers. I am not a fan of cold showers :(
That must be hard to take after a long day's walk, when one would really appreciate a nice hot shower.
Do most albergues have hot water? Or, are cold showers to be...
“The whole value of solitude depends upon one's self; it may be a sanctuary or a prison, a haven of repose or a place of punishment, a heaven or a hell, as we ourselves make it”...
So how much must one pay for a credential? Is it a standard price whether we get it at home or at Roncesvalles?
Thanks for your responses this is all very helpful.
Rita
How hard is it to get a credential when we arrive in Spain? We are starting at Roncesvalles.
I thought you could get one at any albergue that you started at, is this true? If this is so(that it is simple and routine to get one at any albergue), why would anyone want to get one beforehand...
Re: Vicious snarling dogs
Thanks AJ, I hope all the dogs I meet are behind fences too.
I walk almost daily. I have not encountered too many dogs lately as we have a leash law in our town.
But when I was growing up our neighbors had several vicious loose dogs that would chase us kids off.
I...
It seems that in every book I read about the Camino the author has been attacked or nearly attacked by vicious snarling dogs. I know some authors like to put a little spin on it, to add some drama to their stories, but I seriously don't want that kind of drama on my Camino.
So, my question is...
It all sounds great to me. As long as the healthy options are readily available.
I have been to Spain 5 times already and love the Spanish food. I just have never walked the camino and been on that kind of a schedule.
I noticed by looking at the maps of the Camino Frances that there are...
