    Railway stations enroute

I’ll add my pics to the Canfrac love fest. Coming down the hill, past the tunnel, across the line to see it in all its glory is something I will never forget. I hope someday the money and enthusiasm can be found to restore it.

September the 17th on the Aragones A very hot day, we left early and got in early to Santa Cilia de Jaca. Waited in the park under a tree with some furry pilgrims until the only Albergue in town opened. The lovely hospitalaro was very upset when the power went out due to a storm. The meal...

September 17th 2019 A rest day in Jaca on the Aragones to see the sights. The Monastery of San Juan de la Pena certainly lives up to its reputation. Nestled under a cliff, it is something to be seen. The pics don’t do it justice. We missed out on the bus, so the tourist office booked a taxi for...

On this day 16/9/2018, day 2 of the Aragones. A very hot day, but when this pic was taken it was still beautiful. You may remember this bridge near Canfrac from another thread 🙂🙂

    On this date in September...

On the this day, the 15th in 2019 we were very excited. The bus stopped and we wondered why the locals were looking at us. It finally dawned on us that the driver was saying Somport. Our first day on the Aragones. 😃😃 A pic taken by the friendly Policia, remembering how good a cafe con leche and...

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2020?

Ahhhhh the 10 Pound Poms 🙂🙂🙂 Hard to imagine our country without them. Your choice all those years ago is Ireland’s gain and Australia’s loss.

    From your bedroom window

We are in the outer suburbs of Melbourne. The birches will soon change colour. This view was different this time last week. The new owners across the road cut down the big cyprus trees. I hope they replace them with something nice. Have attached another pic half way through the destruction

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2020?

I haven’t posted for some time despite lots of walking. This will probably be our last bushwalking club outing for a while as we go into lockdown this week 😷😥😷😥 A fantastic 13km walk near Warburton, Victoria Australia. All at a safe distance apart. A few steepish climbs, beautiful eucalypts...

    Split routes

This time last year we were in the middle of a split Camino. First we walked the Aragones from Somport to Puenta La Reina then continued on the Frances to Burgos. Then it was bus to Madrid and the plane to Porto. Had time to spare before we met our friends so spoilt ourselves on a last minute 7...

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

Not a long walk but an important one. My 23 year old daughter and I along with 100,000 of our new best friends walked in Melbourne Australia for climate change.

Where did you walk ( locally ) in 2019

In Australia it’s Wattle Day today, the first day of spring. The Golden Wattle is our national floral emblem. Our local bushwalking club on the outer South East side of Melbourne had a leisurely walk in a state park. The wattle, heath, and tiny native orchids are just starting to poke their...

Schengen agreement clarification for US citizens

Please be careful about the “extra day”. A couple of years ago a friend was 12 hours over. It took some very fancy talking at the airport in Rome to be allowed in the plane home to Australia without penalty.

Silly question for really old timers

This time last year we got off the bus at Somport and were met by the Guarda Civil. They were amazed that we had come all the way from Australia and happily took a pics of us at the sign. A beautiful walk down the hill to overnight in Canfrac. The station has to be seen to be believed...

LIVE from the Camino Our Vegemite only lasted 1400km

Not me personally but have seen it done. It’s all about how much Vegemite is used. In this case, less is definitely more.

LIVE from the Camino Our Vegemite only lasted 1400km

I’m a bit late to this conversation... There will only ever be one Vegemite, the rest are just imitations IMHO. We had a lot of fun introducing our many exchange students to it. Most had no idea what we were forcing on them. Some loved it and took it home with them and others detested it. A...

    ...On Being Short...

Short, tall, thin, tubby.... we all have our gifts and challenges. I am 5’4” (162cm) and my darling is 6’2” (188cm) He has a big pack to fit his long back. The beds are a problem as you can see. Bent legs and he still doesn’t fit in the bunk. All in the day or night of a tall pilgrim.

    Non-Catholic on the Camino

@biarritzdon your post reminds of another favourite memory of priests walking. We met brother and sister from America and walked with them for a while. Amazingly he had worked near where we live in Melbourne Australia in the 1980’s. When asked what he did, said he was a Franciscan Priest. More...
