Maybe some forum members (now on the camino) have met him, which may be helpfull for his wife and family, which is why I copy this message (from a facebook group) here.
RIP.
Last week on Monday 15 April, Bjørn Krohn, a Danish priest checked into the parochial albergue at La Faba, the one run by...
It was initiated by a woman who walked the Sachsischen Jakobsweg.

No wonder these numbers (which are relatively favorable about the carbon footprint of travelling by plane) were hard to find. They are not in line with other sources that are based on scientific research, and which are very easy to find actually.
Please - and as was made clear in post #2 - if...
Please stay on the forum as I enjoy reading your posts, including the one on this thread.
Apparently it caused offence to someone, but to me (and I think for most others) it was absolutely clear that causing offence was not the aim of your post. It is not your fault when someone feels offended...
I guess I am a walker. For the simple reason there are no hiking trails where I live.
Fwiw. The words walker and hiker do no translate well in my language.
In Dutch, lopen refers to the physical act of putting one foot in front of the other.
Wandelen means : lopen for leisure purpose.
We have...
Seems like a bit of a generalisation to me - in fact it always keeps amazing me how easily people sometimes make generalisations.
Anyway, it is not how I experienced travelling in Northern and Central Europe.
And maybe it depends on the people you hang out with ;)
As I see you are from the Netherlands, I would suggest contacting the Jacobsgenootschap. (or maybe you have already done this, I don't know)
They have two working groups for (potential) hospitalero's: one for Roncesvalles, and one for other albergues (in Spain, but also in other countries)...
I am not sure how these comments are related to the subject of fhis thread. And I am not sure how they are related to what I wrote.
But let me clarify that also in EU countries hospitals, taxi drivers and hoteliers are expecting to get paid. So basically it is just not clear to me what point...
I get your point that - when people have the budget to take intercontinental flights, they may be expected to also have a budget for the occasional taxi etc. However, only a minority of pilgrims walking a camino (or Chemin, or Jakobsweg, etc) have taken an expensive intercontinental flight...
These are the figures for 2023 I think.
Spain, France and Italy (some countries that have been mentioned in this thread) are not exacty on the top of the list. (nr 26, 27 and 28)
In general (and not as reaction to your post) I notice that people sometimes refer to 'Europeans', which sometimes...
Too bad. It could be a case of 'too many instructions, so people stop reading them ' ? In fact, I am just back from walking the Via Regia in Germany. In one albergue, the instructions were three pages long. The vicar - who showed me the albergue - gave them to me. but seemed rather embarrassed ...
I am sorry, but I don't think this thead was so much about belittling people who are using booking companies or being judgemental about people using booking companies. It is unfortunate if that is your conclusion from this thread, but I am glad the camino seems to have been a good experience...
I am starting to lose the plot in this thread, and I am not sure what you are referring to (and not sure why you use capitals). Do you refer to written instructions about breakfast times (as was discussed earlier in the thread) or do you mean written instructions for walking the camino ? In all...
I am sorry but you seem to be reading things in posts that were never written
I never said I was against albergues providing written instructions - if they wish to do so. I said am against demanding or expecting that any oral or written instructions are given in English.
Nobody said one should...
Sorry, but I don't think I am being harsh.
Words like breakfast and dinner (that were referred to) are basic phrases I think.
More importantly, I think it is odd to expect or demand (which is what the OP did) that - when visiting a non-English speaking country - people communicate in English...
It is a shame indeed that in Spain people communicate in Spanish.
It is always a good idea (and perhaps polite) to learn some basics of the language that is spoken in the country you are visiting.
Here is my list of guidebooks:
Amsterdam-Postel: Jakobswegen in Nederland, bought at the bookshop (if ever you are looking for something Dutch, I can recommend www.dezwerver.nl)
Postel - Rocroi: ordered it from the Belgian Association
Rocroi-Vezelay: German Guidebook in 'Der weg ist das Ziel'...
