Camino Wildlife (excluding escaped circus animals)

On various caminos/pilgrimages I’ve had experiences or encounters with a number of wildlife. Once a wolf came out of the bushes right in front of me. I froze, the wolf gave me a look and thankfully continued on. On another occasion I had an unnerving experience with a stag. There have been...

Listening to Music/Audiobooks/Podcasts while making the pilgrimage?

Never. I can listen to music or podcasts at home. On pilgrimage I listen to my surroundings.

    I think I'm losing it

Brother, you're not alone. I feel exactly the same way & do just what you've been doing. It's been 2 years for me too and a long 2 it's been. But finally I'm leaving in 2 days for a local camino. It's not in Spain but it'll have to do. Hopefully by the Spring Europe will be possible for me.

    A question about walking sticks...

Hiking in the rough mountains where I live I always use a staff but on the Camino I really don't find walking sticks necessary and an added weight. Seems to me most pilgrims were just toting and not really putting them to use.

    Pondering while walking

Walking is when my mind ponders and works things out, problems are considered, memories are recalled, dreams are conjured. Listening to music or such while hiking is quite distracting and removes me from my surroundings. I'd much prefer to have as my soundtrack the natural sounds in my...

What is the most unusual thing you have seen on any Camino?

In Japan on the Shikoku 88 pilgrimage you pass through the small village of Nagoro which is almost entirely populated by life-like dolls. It's both bizarre and touching at the same time. They're placed on benches, in fields and etc just as ordinary people would be going about their business.
