I've used maps.me app on both Caminos with custom gps tracks and found it quite useful. Especially on the Portuguese route which was less well marked than Camino Frances.

I think Camino is deeply personal experience... If lack of gadgets makes you enjoy it more than more power to you.
My personal Camino experience was greatly enhanced because I carried a smartphone.
I wish I took even more photos and videos and wrote even lengthier blog...
If you are carrying a mobile device with you I recommend you download Google Translate (free), and in settings download Spanish for offline use.
Here are the links for iPhone and Android . Supposedly it works well with voice-recognition, but I didn't need that feature.

I found that one of the major experiences of the Camino is "living in the now" ... for me at least it was difficult to relive the past issues or worry about tommorow on the Camino
...just one step after another ..and suddenly you notice you walked for miles
What would you suggest (particulary those of you who had experience with running albergues)
would be the fair donativo amount to leave for pilgirms on a budget?

From the latest albergue list I found under resources the lowest cost for a albergue bed (those that charge) is 5 €...

and its simply great language learning tool, can't recomment it enough.
Also I recently fugured out the Google Translate mobile app hat does text and voice translations
in Android version...
