Listening to music while on the camino

I don't hate music as such but I only listen to it when somebody else puts it on or plays it. On the Camino I was on my own, nobody to switch any music playing device on so I didn't listen. I remember one morning in an albergue they woke us up with beautiful Gregorian chants.

Camino Wildlife (excluding escaped circus animals)

    Those very clearly had legs.

Camino Wildlife (excluding escaped circus animals)

There were 2 green lizards sunbathing near the path. While I was standing quiet admiring them another pilgrim came, English speaking, possibly American. Immediately shouted "Snakes! Kill them!" I saved 2 innocent lives that day, first of all those were not snakes, second and more important, all...

Spanish people like to connect with people that they talk to

The further north in Europe you go the less touch. Could be that even friends don't do handshakes. Once at introduction and never again. Although I'm fine with the Spanish friendliness too, it's natural.

    Books are heavy

Hahaha, yes, I remember sitting in albergue common room and there was the big guide book. Browsed it, toyed with thought that I could take it with me, wouldn't it be awesome to know all about the Camino at a glance. Looked at the big brick and decided not to.

    Newly minted EU citizen

I have family in Poland. Great country! Moving ahead so fast, incredible. As for special perks of EU passport apart from no worries about length of stay, I don't know although I also have an EU passport. Freedom of movement mainly. Can easier get a job in any EU country if that's relevant to...

What to do and not to do in a Refugio/Albergue

I think this is a troll and we should stop feeding it.

What to do and not to do in a Refugio/Albergue

Harry Potter's invisibility cloak? If you stay on the Camino there is a big chance they will see you again. Even slow walkers sometimes skip a stage and are level with or ahead of the fast ones again. Fast ones sometimes take a day off for whatever reason. Pray they don't have an elephant kind...

    Homemade tastes of the Camino?

I didn't know the name of sloe berries, always thought of them as wild plums, they are a kind of plums, but it's nice to know their actual name. Thank you! As for the food, I learnt "ensalada mixta" from pilgrim's menu, I'm sure everybody knows it. Orange cut in round slices and cinnamon on it-...

    Needing a livestock refresher course

Absolutely. Regard as dangerous any animal you don't personally know as friendly to yourself specifically. Especially one that weighs up to 10x more than you. Very easy to get broken bones. What I didn't read in the mentioned blog is what did the ladies do after they saw the bull was most...

    Moving to Spain

So far nobody has mentioned: if you become Spanish tax resident then you pay tax on everything you own globally. A house in Norway? Check. Also the will needs to be done in each country you have property in. For now at least.

“The worst footprint of the pilgrims”

And they proudly go by "vegan" leather. Yes, there are no animal products in it but it destroys the planet anyway, maybe even worse than using an animal product as it was done before the eco crisis.

“The worst footprint of the pilgrims”

Re "bring a rock / take home a rock": In Acropolis of Athens they bring a truck full of building rubble each morning to spread out and it's all gone by the evening, tourists pocket them to bring home a free souvenir. So be careful creating new traditions, they can create new problems. Imagine...

What to do with passport while in albergues?

You can trust that a person you know a few days is not there to steal from you. I would say you can get the right feeling already after a conversation. But you can't be sure they will sit there like a doggy watching your stuff or they may wander off just a little bit, get distracted, wander some...

What to do and not to do in a Refugio/Albergue

Don't be delusional thinking that your t-shirt (and socks) can ever pass the sniff test after you walked in them 20 km regardless of weather. Wash your clothes. Don't hang your stinky shirt or wet towel on other people's beds. There are clothes lines or use railings of your own bed.

What to do with passport while in albergues?

Camino is safe but there are also fake pilgrims who are out there for your stuff. You only need one to spoil the whole experience. Keep your passport, ID, driving licence, bank cards (more than one), cash, phone, camera, etc always with you. As already said, even in the shower.

    Barefoot training

That's a good one! I actually did some firewalking as a teenager, accidentally, but still counts, right?

    Barefoot training

I don't have to think how much of what there is, I know. There's enough. And "fields" quite often are rocky mountain paths too. No problem with proper footwear but I wouldn't go there even in running shoes. Well, some people do, their choice. But when we discuss things we better give a truthful...

    Barefoot training

Mind that Caminos go also through cities and industrial areas. Lots of motor oil, broken glass, and other things you don't really want to touch with your bare skin.

    Really Dumb Albergue Question. Sorry.

Only a couple answers included "Take your valuables with you" warning. I want to repeat it. Passport, money, bank cards, phone - all go in a dry bag or in my case a big trash bag closed with Ikea food bag clip. Can leave it on shower floor, no water gets inside. Sounds perfect. Would you please...
