When I was an enlisted man in the US Navy, there was a procedure for overtaking and passing a commissioned officer while walking. One would pass on the left, say "by your leave, sir" and salute. With or without the salute, a greeting and a smile has always worked for me on the Camino.
I've alsays used: "No, gracias, no bebo alcohol." If anyone needs to know why, I ignore them. It's just my preference. (FYI: Born and raised in Noo Awlins. Did enough in my youth to last a lifetime.)
Amigos,
I selfishly want the best weather and the least crowded paths and albergues for my trek. I've been told that September is ideal but that won't work for me next year. Suggestions for spring 2011 would be greatly appreciated.
Gracias ,
Dan aka Tio
