As a child, finding out the presents I thought Santa provided were actually given by my parents was a very traumatic moment. And now I'm learning the camino providing is actually people doing kind things...okay seriously, it's a figure of speech. Humans love having hope, and feeling that the...
There's a quote I like from the end of the film Jojo Rabit. It's from a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke
Let everything happen to you
Beauty and terror
Just keep going
No feeling is final
To me it's a paradox. I benefit immensely making myself get out of my comfort zone. But the more I live outside my comfort zone the harder it gets to live in my comfort zone. But I think it fits with my feelings that life is and should be filled with contradiction
Right now I'm escaping the weather in Canada and vacationing in Cuba. Yesterday I visited the city of Trinidad. Cuba and its people are going through rough times. It was actually shocking how bad things are. Many times I was approached by people asking for a peso, less than 1 cent Canadian...
I like to think of doing a camino that lasts, say 30 days, as walking a camino for a day 30 times. Each day is different. Some are wonderful, some aren't. I walk alone, I walk with another individual, I walk in a group. The weather is amazing, the weather sucks. I'm bright eyed and alert, I'm...

I enjoyed A Coruna. It's a short train ride from Santiago. The rugged coast has a good walking trail there are interesting works of art along the trail.
Whenever I hear people talking about how things have changed not for the better, I'm reminded of a scene in The Breakfast Club. The teacher is complaining how the kids have changed and the custodian says it's BS. He says, "the kids haven't changed, you have..." I think as we age we romanticize...
Thanks everyone for an interesting discussion. I never feel shamed or put down or offended by posts because I think those are feelings I decide to have because it was my choice to read the thread. Since it seems those feelings are unpleasant, I choice to avoid them. I am responsible for every...
One strange thing I saw was a former Soviet army officer wearing torn up old running shoes while carrying his brand new hiking boots in his pack because he, "didn't want to get them dirty".
