    Irish Ideas

Hi, This may not be directly related, but I will be in Ireland for 10 days of liesure and was wondering if there were any suggestions, particularly camino related, of places to go etc. other than the regular tourist attractions. I would appreciate any ideas. I will be there from Sep 4-13...

    The Varieties of Camino Experiences

I am reading with some amusement this thread and particularly the American contributors. It is only when one is in relative security and freedom that one can voice dissent. People around the world can bad mouth the USA, but when your trusty Airbus or Boeing loses an engine or has an electrical...

    .... and we're back...

Ivar, as always thanks for a great service to us all. Question, is there any way in this new format that I can simply look at the new posts since my last visit? This was a very convenient option in the old format. Ultreya, John

    National Pilgrimage

I have read that following the Spanish Civil War, the church promoted a national pilgrimage to Compostela as a way of reunifying the spanish people. This pilgrimage was postponed by WWII and finally took place in 1949. Does anybody have information on this? And does it relate to the Caminos?

    Confessions in English?

Hi, There is nothing in the incridion that states that the confession must be made at the specific site. In fact, the confession may be made before or after. When I was in the Cathedral in Santiago in October, there was one confessional box that had a hand lettered sign "English" hanging on...

    Plenary Indulgence, July 25th?

Re: works, acts, deoderant et al. I have watched this thread develop over several days resisting the urge to weigh in. This is precisely the irresistable temptation that has distracted Christianity from the beginning. Yet, we are invited to celebrate the mystery, not to explain it. Breaking...

    -10c expected

Just a curious question. I saw a man cutting the large leaves off stalks of plants which were in the Caldo Gallego. Were these turnips? I have never seen leaves harvested from a plant this way. Thanks and buen camino to all. John

    Food: Pinchos

Ivar, You brought back many wonderful memories, my favorite is a small bar across the street from the city office building in Samos. The best! empemadas that weren't greasy, and batter fried mushrooms. I have a question about tipping in bars and restaurants along the camino. Several times...

    Prayer/good thoughts/good vibes requested!

Hi DG, I feel your anxiety, I have been there. Before my camino, I read Joyce Rupp's book and her 24 lessons are well heeded. I didn't take the whole book, but I wrote down the 24 statements and began to study them before I went. They were great meditations for walking the camino. Every...
