I just checked out photos of the Viana correos office. They depict a rather full selection of boxes and other required shipping material. You should be fine there. That said, their hours indicate a daily closure of 2:30 PM.
My wife and I like to treat ourselves once we arrive in Villafranca del Bierzo. We stay at La Puerta del Perdon. Only 5 rooms of so but what a delight and reasonably priced. They also have a restaurant on the first floor but we have never ate there.
I there are two that I know of: Albergue el Pajar de Ages (in Ages before Burgos) and Albergue San Miguel in Hospital de Orbigo. As far as I know, they are for sale - but an inquiry may find that the owners may be willing to rent.
I always have well trimmed facial hair while at home. I start my Camino journeys as such. I normally visit a traditional barber in the middle and then at SdC. The best shave I have had was from a barber in Sarria just a few hundred yards up from the stairs
I was referred to in a few different ways while walking my Caminos. Thanks goodness none of them resembled that which my wife regularly calls me! (kinda like a burro).
I live on the Jersey shore so prior to any of my Caminos, I gather several local scallop shells. I have my grandkids from each of my 4 children paint the cross of St James upon them (and very often more than that - haha). I tie them to my backpack and they serve as a constant reminder of family.
Indeed Albergue So Por Hoja in Astorga is very good. That Brazilian woman owns it and she immigrated along with her daughter. She is the cousin (I believe this is the relationship) of Jose who owns the Hostal Casa San Nicolas in Molinaseca. Jose and his wife owns this place and it is very...
@jtdums "We are using the Camino as a stepping stone to an AT hike in '24 so that tie in was perfect."
Before you head on the AT next year, read "Adventures of a Trail Stooge" Fun, entertaining, useful and rather profound at times.
Thanks for the review - very helpful. Here is a recommendation for something to watch regardless of the fact that it is not a movie. Efren Gonzalez has a series of Vlogs about many caminos (and other hikes like the AT). They are not only useful but very entertaining. I've watched several...
I am currently 67 (even though a few weeks back, I suggested that I was 68 - wow, aging has a way of forgetting how old you really are OR simply desiring you are younger - haha). Back in 2013, my wife and I met up with a group 8 students from Fairfield University somewhere past Leon. We ran...
Each time I walk through or stay the night in Triacastela, I always stop at Parillada Xacabeo Restaurante. They serve a delicious beef tongue accompanied by some fresh veggies and potatoes. The dish brings me back to my youth - my Mom would serve that perhaps once a month
@LauraEmilia, you may want to read "My Own Pace: A Story of Strength & Adversity on the Camino de Santiago." An individual who shares your nationality takes a rather prominent role.
