In Lugo cathedral the stamp is in the sacristy, you have to find someone and ask. It is not a paying cathedral, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed all day and people go in to pray. I found a sacristan without any problem but I may have just been lucky.
Yes, ask the volunteers who are helping with the queue. When I helped in the Pilgrim Office there was always a volunteer able to stamp 'credenciales' and sell new ones.
I mean that people in the countryside pick mushrooms. I live in the middle of nowhere, people pick mushrooms and there are lots of vegetables. Yes a caldo galego has veg but it's very, very cooked, there are lots of ways to cook veg and in other parts of Spain vegetables, as a side dish, are...
People pick and eat mushrooms in Galicia they just don't serve them in restaurants, but then vegetables are not common in Galician restaurants unless you get a salad as a first dish.
Any market here (I mean street markets) serves pulpo and fish is on the menu in most restaurants but where is the...
Don't forget that temperatures quoted are air temperatures and often bear little resemblance to what it feels like when you are walking in full sunshine. I find that by mid morning it is uncomfortable to walk and by afternoon horrible so do give yourself the time to finish walking by about...
I can't comment on whether you can use a US credit card but I frequently use the 'tarjeta dorada'. When looking for trains on the RENFE site it asks if you have a tarjeta dorada, when the prices are shown you can see whether there is a promotional price or whether the tarjeta is the lowest, then...
I walked the Levante, from Valencia to Toledo and Toledo to Cebreros in March and never saw a soul. I did 5 days in April and didn't see anyone but according to albergue registers there were several people on the days ahead of me so by May you could find yourself with some company or not, luck...
The weather is unseasonably warm, it is probably unlikely to continue but.... The maximum temps that you see are for late afternoon so aim to finish fairly early, however the long term forecast that I saw this morning does seem to believe that it will rain next week. I would just be sure to have...
Laurie, there's supposed to be a Hostal Casa Fornies, c/Medio 2, in Selgua I don't think this is the one I saw but the telephone is +34 974 417168 and email; portalarmentera@terra.es
Good luck with whatever you plan,
Sue
There is. I didn't know about it either. It is a Casa Rural I think but it is also the local bar and restaurant and well used by locals. I only had a coffee there but it seemed really nice and the bar prices were normal. I didn't ask about accommodation prices but I would have paid an extra few...
They seemed to have one room reserved for pilgrims, the number of beds varied. I think all were reservable, Vic and Manresa included breakfast in the price, in Vic they give a packed breakfast if you want to leave early, it was so big it did for lunch as well.
I've been trying to upload my list but it won't work so here's a rough list:
I stayed in Llanca, in a hostel
Perelada - hotel, when I was there the cheaper places were full, it was a weekend, so I ended up walking to a commercial centre outside Figueres
Bascara - pension €25
Girona - albergue...
I agree that Catalunya is more expensive than other parts of Spain, for me that was made worse by the fact that even the albergues did not have kitchens and I usually cook for myself. A 'menu del dia' was usually about €10, a cup of coffee about €1.30 I think, accommodation €15 to €20 usually. I...
Hi Laurie
I'm sure you could do Port de la Selva to Puente de la Reina in 29 days, or less. I did it in 30, I know I bussed Vic to Manresa so you would need another day there but, with hind sight I would have done Tamarite to Huesca differently. I would have stopped in Selgua and not in Monzon...
It is true there is nowhere to eat in Ena but the albergue has a kitchen, and the walk up to San Juan de la Pena is fantastic. I walked Ena to Santa Cilla de Jaca but I wouldn't do that again out of season, there was nowhere to eat in Santa Cilla, I would have been better walking to Jaca, but...
Watch the weather carefully. It's supposed to get warmer but getting warmer doesn't mean getting warm, just not quite so very cold. The very cold is unusual, but cold and damp is fairly normal! Just be prepared for most things, when the sun shines in Spain it can be effective! One set of...
