Pack transfer is simple. I've always used Jacotrans, with good results You can do it day at a time with the bags they leave in the reception areas.
Or if you book before you go, you can prepay your bag transfer as well. You save a euro per time, and they send you a tag to print out and attach to...
That lovely scenic bit with the decent track was fine, it was this bit I didn't like - the track after Riego de Ambros. Too busy watching my footing and trying not to faceplant, I didn't even notice the scenery. Now I take the road. But if it was raining I would consider a taxi from Riego de...
To be honest I dont know why it gets such as bad rap. As far as I'm concerned its just part of the walk. I like it just the way I like the rest of the Camino, I cant understand why people would look to skip it.
If I missed a bit, it would be the downhill to Molineseca.
The horse option doesn't actually save time though. its not a long stretch and you don't start until 9am. I was a lot quicker the time I walked as I started earlier.
I would guess that every year is different, and to look at a weather forecast.
I walked in May and had a full day in torrential rain in Galicia (that's to be expected). Other than that it rain mainly in the afternoons when I'd finished walking.
I would think that given the relatively small number of beds available between both Orisson and Borda compared to Pilgrims walking, most people walk the distance to Roncesvalles in one day.
Therefore most people would start walking in the morning to give themselves time.
When I worked in Auckland, ran large marketing departments, and photo studios, and people heard I was heading off for another Camino, I would get comments of 'WOW', and 'you're really intrepid'. Maybe because I was a middle aged woman, and in their eyes didn't look capable of even imagining such...
I've walked in September twice. The first time I encountered a heatwave and there was no respite for 2 weeks.
Last time it was much cooler, the heatwave finished just before we walked.
I also walked May into June. Coolish to begin with, not too much rain whilst I was walking (it rained in the...
Back in the early 90's my aunt (who was a competitive distance runner), ran the length of NZ. That meant averaging 80-90kms a day, she held the record for the fastest time by a woman for a few decades. She ran with another runner and they had a support driver with a campervan. They were also...
There is a lovely quiet trail from Samos that isn't on the road. I think a lot of people miss the turnoff to the trail though as we met people in Sarria who walked on the road. They missed the sign and we didnt meet up until Sarria.
I sometimes watch the Australian and NZ border security TV programmes. You would be amazed at how many people 'forget' that they packed an entire suitcase (or 3) entirely with food.
I encountered a group the first time I reached the Cruz de Ferro. They swarmed all over the rock mound throwing rocks at each other, which somewhat changed my plans given I didnt want to be target practice.
Stopped at Acebo and let them pass.
The issue I had in buying a guide book was finding one in English.
If you have your phone with you, apps and following the arrows will get you to Santiago.
That happened to me as we walked out of Astorga. Walked into a bar and found someone I had met 3 years before in Navarette. You just dont know who you'll meet and when.
On a practical note, if you have limited days, you want to do as little skipping about as possible, as these activities chew...
I'm not sure what you mean by gym shoes either. I have walked in running shoes, and now in sandals. (I go for comfort not durability).
The most important thing is fit and comfort for your feet, lots of people will give you advise on what works for them, what's more important is what works for...
