    Private rooms saved my Camino

Excellent post, Wanderer64. Those are some of the reasons I carry a private room with me (my tent), especially how much I value my sleep. Insufficient sleep at night means no walking the next day for me.

Common courtesies required and expected from peregrinos

Great post! It's nice to hear from the hospitalero side of things.

    For us sloooow walkers only!

Now that is my kind of walking!

    swim suit

I am bringing mine if for no other reason than to indulge a dip in an ocean that isn't radioactive!

This is totally against Camino spirit but . . .

I'm not a morning person, either. That's one of the reasons I prefer tenting: go to bed and get up on your own schedule and you won't bother anyone else doing so, either.

Hat or No Hat? That is the question!

You can fold up the back of your hat brim so it doesn't knock against your pack. That bothers me, too, so on several hats I use for hiking I just sewed a snap on the brim in the back so I can snap it up and out of the way when I have my pack on, then undo it when I don't.

Civil Guard called out to quell pilgrim protestors at O Pino

Another good reason to walk with a small tent.

    There will be days when....

    Lovely post, David.

    Dress in religious places??

This is a lovely idea! How common are chapel veils among Spanish women, does anyone here know?

    Publicly humiliated for snoring

    That is a marvelous idea.

    Making it better

I'm seriously considering being one of those peregrinos who picks up trash other peregrinos leave behind (that bugs me). I'm trying to figure out a way to bring one of those grabber thingies with me. A pair of gloves doesn't weigh anything and I could buy garbage bags along the way, I'm just...

    English on the Camino Frances

Use a translator app or point to a phrase in a phrasebook. I have never encountered anyone on my travels who found that to be inappropriate in any way. Would you have a problem with someone politely pointing to a phrase in English via a phone app or phrasebook? Usually people are just relieved...

    There will be days when....

    Beautiful post, Tumbleweed.

    Full albergues every day

Me, too. This really seems like the wisest course of action.

    Publicly humiliated for snoring

I am shocked by these reports of how peregrinos treat snorers. Every other communal sleeping situation I've been on during hikes, like shelters along the A.T., snoring was a given. If you were bothered by it you wore earplugs or slept somewhere else. There is no way it is EVER appropriate to put...

Winter Camino expense compared to Summer.

Where do peregrinos get laundry detergent? I'm envisioning someone hiking with boxes of Tide and Oxiclean strapped to their pack. :D

    Camino very busy now

That sounds like a very good reason to carry a small, lightweight tent.
