    Second Camino Route Opinions

How interesting to read this, as I walked from SJPP to Leon 5 years ago and am now wondering whether to walk Leon to Santiago or carry on to Finisterre. Each Camino experience is unique.

LIVE from the Camino SJPP to SdC

You’ll need to stay in Biarritz I think overnight then catch the train to SJPP the next morning or change your flight time. We arrived at SJPP then queued along the wall at 2pm to check into the Albergue and start your experience with chatting to other walkers. We then started our walk the next...

Coming back to complete or start again?

I've decided to pick up the Camino trail from Leon in July this year, thanks everyone for your kind words. See you on the trail

Coming back to complete or start again?

Yes I've replaced my footwear with trail shoes and ditched my boots (which had served me well for many years of doing one day walks or up and down volcanoes over a 24 hour period, but I'd never walked week after week in a straight line before)

    Cows on the Camino?

Strong minded pilgrim by BonitaHolland posted Sep 26, 2016 at 9:52 AM It's more likely they'll cross your path and might need poking out of the way- they don't mind especially if you make farmer noises

    CF surprises?

I was surprised that my feet swelled and stayed that way.... my tried and tested Boots became tight and uncomfortable after weeks of walking. I now know that I needed boots at least a size bigger if not more. My next walk will involve my 'I'm going for a very long walk' boots rather than the...

Coming back to complete or start again?

Hi everyone, last year I walked carrying a back pack staying in hostels from SJDPP to Leon and then had to stop and go home due to Plantar Facilitis which was incredibly painful and frustrating. It's taken until now (4 months later) to be able to walk for more than an hour without pain. I'm...

    Musings now I'm home

I enjoyed reading your very honest post. It's made me think and reflect on my decision to come home from Leon. I also intended to walk the whole thing, I'd taken s 3 month sabbatical so had no time limits however when my Camino became dominated by pain 4-5 weeks in, it was time to go home (I'd...

    Slowing down

Thank you for your kind words I had an X-ray yesterday as the GP is concerned I may have broken a small bone or even have a bone chip floating about which would explain why the pain hasn't subsided 3 weeks after getting home - and he confirmed I also have Plantar Facilitis. Next step is...

    Slowing down

Than Thank you for this very useful advice I've also been measured up for new boots and find that I've got feet that have swollen to a size and a half bigger than my old boots! Mind you they were trusted old boots and will have stretched over the years but still makes you think eh?

    Pass it forward

Whilst I was walking the Camino Frances I noticed how frequently items that were wanted/needed were found or lost or passed on or shared or left behind but then gained by another....for example Betty left her rain jacket behind but was later given a cape then I met her and mentioned I needed a...

    Slowing down

I did see a medic well two in fact at the wonderful medical centre in Sehugun who said 'go home' which I have done. I've been home for a week now and I'm still in a lot of pain so I'm glad I made the decision to stop. What's interesting to me is that I didn't feel frustrated or that my Camino...

This is what you missed it was pretty exciting - although I could've done with missing the sleeping on the floor- lucky you having multiple mattresses!

Planning my next Camino and doubting about sleeping in albergues

I began my Camino thinking just as you advise to walk to follow arrows and to simply arrive and take a bed as it presented itself-however it didn't work for me at all and also I suspect will not work for others. Privacy and personal space became very important to me- much as many pilgrims find...

Two busted ankles + hip problems---skipped the meseta

Don't feel bad, I stopped st Sehugun and caught a train to Leon which for my Camino became my Santiago- I'd been walking for 4 weeks. Once I'd decided to stop I felt quite elated and excited and not disappointed so I hope you can find some joy in your unique achievement. Whether you resume or...

LIVE from the Camino Perhaps my favourite day!

My favourite day was in Viana I arrived at 11.55 to find a high level of excitement in the centre as I searched for the auberge in the church which would open doors at 12.00, in a moment I heard that bulls would be running that day and the whole community was in a heightened state of...

Planning my next Camino and doubting about sleeping in albergues

Via email direct or via a website both of which contact details I'd access via gronze.com (it's in Spanish but very easy to understand/guess and navigate if like me you're non Spanish speaking. I'd look at gronze.com first then click on each auberge to see if there were private rooms if not I'd...

Planning my next Camino and doubting about sleeping in albergues

I tried Albergues for 20 nights and eventually hated them - it's not the noise but the smells the personal habits the hogging the one only toilet for 20 minutes the strange 'gloop' the blocked drains in showers the people getting up at 4am to start walking the trying to get clothes dry plus so...
