I'm a solo traveler, an introvert, so the idea of a Camino family doesn't appeal although re-meeting people along the way sounds great. The whole purpose of this walk is to have time finally to think and feel about a lot that's happened to me over the past 2-3 years: early slightly unplanned...
Hi all,
I started training some in June, did more in July, and now aim to train nearly every day in August. I'm up to 10k steps a day which doesn't just drain me or make me ultra sore, but where I am, Louisiana, is super flat. I'm doing what I can, realizing I'll train every day as I walk, and...
All this I can really get behind. As I mentioned above, last Camino I kept my backpack to around 12-14 lbs. I weigh 265, so I'm hauling myself plus my "turtle shell" of kit also. I will go with this. I have a rain jacket, most kit already.
When I did the Camino in 2015, I went in summer since I was a teacher. This time, I'm going 1 September through the end of November. How should I pack AND how do I keep my pack light? Thanks.
my heart goes out to you Katie, it's 2017 now and I wonder if you have set off on your very personnel pilgrimage yet. The reason I ask is that I also lost my love to panceratic cancer, though the pain and grief I am mindful of the promise I made to Scott to take him back to Spain for his last...
Buen Camino!
I had ankle surgery on January 6. A gigantic bone spur was removed, and my tendon put back in place. That very day, I was actually able to hobble around, since the ankle itself wasn't operated on. Okay, I confess: I don't have good balance, and I wasn't crutch-proficient. So I...
Hello fellow pilgrims,
On Friday, August 5, my Camino of the heart came to an end: Jack, my beloved husband of 17 years, died. He survived six months with pancreatic cancer and died at age 69. We had hospice, as well as our housekeeper of 17 years who is also a nurse's aide, as well as his...
I can't thank you all enough. Every time I read this it makes me cry. So much love, sympathy, kindness. You are all such wonderful people. It's this openness, love, and willingness to help that mad me fall in love with the Camino. I've spent all Saturday night sleepless; right now it's...
Knowing how to go forward in the face of terminal cancer and impending widowhood is the toughest challenge I think I have ever faced or will ever face.
Hi all,
It is with a heavy heart that I come to you all here, and say that my Camino dreams for this summer are dashed. My husband was recently diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer. I have to cancel my flight, and walk this Camino with him, as far as it goes.
The next time I walk the...
And the climb up and down to Roncesvalles, compared to Portomarin. No comparison. Sorry :(
The descent down to Portomarin was a 'blip' or 'speed bump' compared to others such as down to Roncesvalles and the worst, down to Molineseca. As for the climb out of Portomarin, hmmm. I wondered...
Good advice, all of this. No circulatory problems but I am predisposed to musculo-skeletal problems. I can take anti-inflam mes no problem. I have talked to my podiatrist about the tendonosis, but am going to call again for another appointment and talk more. Thank you!
Hi everyone,
1) I'm planning to go on another Camino this coming summer, but the peroneal (ankle) tendonosis I got on this last Camino that ended last August still plagues me. One underlying issue is that I'm a type 2 diabetic, but the main underlying issue is that the tendonosis is on a...
